Top speed

Ok ive read alot about top speed and people here have said that its 118 at like 4300 rpms right? I was just wondering becuz today i buried my needle past 120 and was at 5200 rpms...I wasnt sure if maybe my tach or speed or something is messed up, its a 5spd

I have no clue anymore. The officiall speed govenor cuts in at 112-113. With my old speedo it would reach 115 (and didnt cut off), but now that i have digital it reached 112 and cut. Some people in SOHCs have reached around 130, so not sure if its a speedo problem.

Stock s13 kicks off at 115, i've done it quite a few times. The tach reads right at 5200 at this speed. I've heard a roumor on how to get past it tho.

There are factors that will determine your top speed.
For instance:
AT transmission does not have any limits
Bypass system such as Apex'i RSM or Bee*R

I have a standard tranmission and have brough it to 125-130ish. I'm not sure since I coulddn't glance at my RSM and don't remember the exact Kilometers I was going.

i have a 5 speed sohc and i got it to right around 112 or 115 or something. i didnt check the tach but i still had plenty left and i got up there without a hesitation so i guess my governor kicks in when its supposed to.

friend of mine claims that his S14 with S14blcktop was able to push 140+
is this possible? with limiter removed?
i think he mentioned that he had a chip in.

here's the deal though. It's an S14 for one thing. I thought the governor was right around 115-118 or something?... but you can reach 115 b4 u hit 5K in 5th gear, and he was @ 5K with the speedo needle buried @ 120mph. so he reaLLY just wanted an explanation, ...if anyone knows one off the top of their head, or if his speedo was just messed up and his car sux! b/c sometimes it cuts off while driving.(hahaha)

its not really much of a rumor, go to the archive and faqs section. Its cutting a wire to ur ecu, and removing 5th gear sensor or sumin. Have yet to do it (i doubt I will be going over 100 in the near future)
