View Full Version : Silvia/180sx Covaerage on Super Street
So i got the new super street today and what do i see....alot of coverage on silvias,180's and 240's. Man here comes more people jumping in the bandwagon. But the coverage aint that bad though except for the nitrous express S15. There was a rpetty good article about the Yashio Factory 180sx and a article about the twin drifters of signal. o yea there was also a article about sam from jspec on his s15 but i dont think they mentioned his accident on DD6. The stupidest part of this covereage was "the definitive silia and 180sx buyer's guide" WHY WHY WHY:bash: have anyone else seen this issue yet? what do you guys think about it?

i think its cool
people get all riled up 'oh the bandwagon jumpesr' yeah it does suck but hey, we are driving one of japans biggest selling cars, what do you expect? its obviously no secret there or here lately
big deal. u got your car right? then screw everyone else
no mention of the dd6 accident bcause i dont know if you are aware, interviews and articles are written months before publication.
bwalker had his car in SCC and the actual photoshoot was in..mm february (?)

bad news for anyone serious about 240's, because alot of idiots are gonna realize they could sell their civic and buy one. its gonna drive up the prices and cause alot of them to get wrecked.
also the more magazines cover drifting the more people are gonna start doing it in the streets, bringing more attention to it from te authorities.
i dont like it one bit. every time i pick up one of those rice mags in a grocery store the last few months i see drifting all over the cover

i totally disagree mistert
more people intersted=price drops on various aftermarket parts.
yes engines go up but they have been going up in japan for quite some time, US guys are taking them all.
the drift coverage is GREAT MORE EVENTS FOR ME!!
im not a poser, ill be at the track, more coverage=more companies see it, then morecompanies sponsor events, means more competitions means more practice events means more accepted.
LOVE IT! coverage is GREAT! and also means more of me to be in magazines! woot woot!
I agree w/you dousan that more events are great, hey when i went to drift showoff i loved it and wanted anothevent (D1 here i come!) but yea the other guy is right too that people can sell their civics and get our cars. But what can we do...nothing so i guess we all have to accept it.
another intresting thing i found in the article about Drifter X and XL is on a picture taken of them. On the first picture of the article, Bai id driving komatsu 180 and komatsu is driving bais car. Kinda weird when they both have their cars w/their names on it.

i just dont want the 240 to get swept up and get a bad image, and i get upset when 15 year old kids tell me i need to get an SR motor, even if i tell them what my plans really are.
as far as more events though, i am glad for that. it is a chance to see people (much) better than me on the track and learn from them, and more chances to get my car off the streets and on the track. god i cant wait to get back to san diego and my car

More coverage is great, more pics, more info, its all good. Plus it makes me feel special that so many people adore my ~$2500 ****box :D.
Maybe they'll call probes 240sx before they call mine a probe, but i guess thats still bad. :axe:

it doesn't bother me so much..but then again i have an economic stake in the business myself..so more coverage means more young people spending money on the relatively costly sport of drifting..or at least posing as drifters..anything that increases the market is good in my opinion...
and those who really do take their car to the track and drift or race or whatever will only be possitively affected by this increased awareness and interest for all the reason previously stated by Dousan..
sure there will be sell outs and posers..but does it really affect you?..i don't think so..stay true to yourself and your own goals and values and you'll be fine..
i laughed the other day when someone came into the shop with an MR2 widebody that has 18's on it and stretched tires...i asked him why he did it..and he says "cause it looks cool and i read about it somewhere"...lol..oh well..what can you do..i shrug it off, smile when he spends money, and laugh to myself as he walks out knowing that i'm not him..that alone should make you smile..:)..the concept that if nothing else you are now part of the elite who do this for the "right" reasons...(i quote because who are any of us to judge right from wrong in this industry???);)

Did Super street use the moving shots for his car? I went with Sam to the photoshoot and drove Rickys Civic SI to get those shots while he stuck out the passneger side to take pics. We did it at the worst time like at 5ish with all this traffic. All these cars kept comming up and we had to start over. It was fun though. Too bad I couldn't sneak in shots of my car for sams shoot! haha
nope no miving shots all still shots

I don't see what difference it makes to you? I have a 240 (had for about 7yrs now) I have a SR (had it for over 2yrs now) The bandwagon has nothing to do with me or you...just enjoy your car and move on with your day. If your day is ruined by some n00b saying that you should get an SR then you should really evaluate your sense of self worth.
The exposure is great! I like when someone compliemts me on my car. I like that they can appreciate all the hard work I have put into her. It doesn't make my world go 'round but it's nice.
My advice is go to a road course and beat the he11 out of your car for a day or two and all will be right with the universe. I'm sure dousan and other track rats will agree.
BTW cheaper parts rock!

Bah with the bandwagon crap.
I was doing this **** way back in '96 and I could honestly care less if someone jumps from a Honda or whatever else and wants to build a Silvia. That's their perogative.
The way I see it is, there will be more "Silvias" and less Hoonduhs. I see this all the time at the shop. A Honda guy jumps ship and lands on the 240 bandwagon. But the funny thing is they are doing it to get out of the "ricey show scene". They want to do a car right this time around. Thats how it usually is in my view. Admittedly it's often times perpetuated by the reading of Super Street, SCC, blah blah but who cares.
I enjoy it. I would much rather see a bunch of tuned 240s running around with Silvia conversions than Hondas with fart mufflers and Altezzas.
Everyone complains that the 240 is going to turn into rice because of this but how are "honda guys" or saturn, or whatever they used to drive supposed to learn how to do it right if no one will help them out? If a noob jumps on here and talks about doing a Silvia conversion everyone jumps on their ***.
I'm sure you guys were in their same situation a couple of years ago and even some back in '98-'99 when I got back from Japan and I saw the treads on 240 boards, etc. and I helped out and gave advice to whomever I could (although I don't frequent boards much).
All I'm saying is this, if they are going to jump on the bandwagon why not keep those on the bandwagon headed in the right direction? Plus if enough Silvia conversions pop up I won't have to move my arse back to Japan. lol.
Blah, I'll get off my soap box.

I kinda don't want honda drivers driving 240's cuz they won't be able to appreciate it. And most that do get it, all i hear them say is that they will swap an sr20 in... that getting kinda old and annoying.
Luck for us they didn't mass produce the 240's so it a challange to find one. Took me like 3 months, and my friend is still looking for his 8 month and going...

me i dont really care about resale value, cuz im planning to keep my car forever. the biggest worry i have with all this coverage is the inevitable rise in 240 jackings. i dont wanna be in the same situation as civic si/integ gs-r/type r owners. im already afraid to leave my car out on the street today.

just cuz people drive crappy cars at the moment doesnt mean that they wont be able to appreciate a good one when they get it. come on...we were all new at one point and there were people kind enough to help us. why not repay the favor and help new owners? it's not like owning a 240sx is some sort of exclusive club for only the elite. i love my car and i love driving it. it's one of the greatest things in the world to me, and i think that we should all be eager to share that feeling with others.
and quite honestly, the 240sx wasnt exactly a limited production model itself.

The only problem that I can really see is that the 240 market will probably become polluted w/ tons of junk knock-offs.

I have seen one benefit of the exposure thus far. I found an affordable radiator cooling panel $48 compared to $250-$300 for JDM

One year of the Civic/Accord/Camry/Tarus/Explorer, ANY year of those would outnumber the entire production run of the 240SX in the USA.
