o2 sensor wiring issue??

I have a 91 hatch with sr swap. When I first got the engine running the o2 sensor hearer would always stay onand kill my battery. When I found out what it was i tried changing wires around but it never got any signals. eventually i just unplugged it. It never threw a code or ran any different. Now i have new cams and valve train and i need it tuned so I would like it to work. I have nistune but I cant get it to read the sensor but if its hooked up the heater is still always on. Im running rich as hell and need it to work does anybody have any ideas?
