i am currently running a holset hx35w on my blacktop sr20. it's making about 475hp at 22psi. it pulls great but spools close to 5k rpm. this isn't a daily car by any means just a weekend warrior, but i was wondering how a gt3076r would compare to the hx35w power wise and spool up factor. if i can stay close to the same power running the same amount of boost, but could spool up quicker with a different turbo i'd love it. thoughts?

Have you considered switching to a BEP housing for the HX35. That would spool that earlier and not sacrifice top end flow..

i'll look into it thanks.

Are you running a single or twinscroll manifold? I have a PDR Diesel modified HX35 (small HX40 compressor wheel) non-wg 12cm housing mounted on a fullrace twinscroll manifold on my stock redtop and I get 35 psi by 4500 rpm.

That sounds more like how my GT35 spools...close to 5k.

You run 35psi on a stock bottom end?

That'd put you well into 550whp range.

I don't buy it.

ya, i just bought the car not too long a go and it is running the power fc for programming and i can tell it needs to be retuned. runs very rich and just seems like the owner didn't want to pay for good tuning time.

and yes it has a full race twin scroll manifold. do you think with a better tune it should spool quicker?

with a tune it will definitely run waaaay better.

What cams are on the car? From what you're saying, sounds like the HX35 is similar to a GT35R. GT3076R are smaller and will definitely spool sooner, but it wont make as much power up top. For it to hit the same numbers you're pushing right now, you are pretty much maxing out what a GT3076 can do and at a higher boost level.

My GT3582R, I was sitting around 500whp at 1.8bar. Problem is that I barely have any power band considering I have nothing before 5k.

ok thanks, this is what i was looking for. i enjoy the power but would like it to spool sooner. if a better tune will give me that then i would love to keep the hx35.

so to revive this thread....my hx35 spools up at 5000rpm, a gt3076r is too small, but what about a gt3582r? i have a twin scroll manifold and the gt35 has a twin scroll housing. will it be a better or worse choice for driveability and spool up? would it net more power at lower boost pressures?

A gt30/76R will pump out 475 whp with the right mods around 25 psi of boost. Whats all this talk about it being to small?

Yeah, what are you guys talking about? A 3076R has plenty of flow for 475whp.

Mazworx had this setup:

Stock SR20VE head
Stock DET RWD block
GT3076R 18-19psi (single scroll)
RC 1000cc injectors
Mazworx VE Intake Manifold
ROM Tune
Z32 MAF

and it made 491whp with a very linear power band. Now I don't know what the OP's setup is, but still...

id be curious to read the OP's setup too.
