View Full Version : GT2871R with stock injectors . . .

I'm getting ready to install a T2871R that I bought off the forums here soon, but I may have to turn on the car and drive it down the street or a few miles (2 miles). I haven't replaced the stock injectors yet, but I'm wondering if that will be allright. Will having the stock injectors and a bigger turbo cause any problems, even though I'm not really pushing the car that hard?

On a side note, would setting my HKS actuator to 14 PSI and whomping on it cause any problems anyway? I would think not since there would really be no boost spike. I could see a problem if I tried to drop the 740cc's in and then drove the car with those and no tuning. But, running the stock injectors with the turbo set to 14 psi . . . shouldn't cause me any problems if I needed to drive down to a shop to drop off my car right?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, just wondering if I can save $$ on the tow truck and just drive there myself. (the shop is actually 40 miles away, but I wouldn't be pushing the car hard.)

id prolly try 2 drive it there on 7psi or less since you're on stock injectors and id try to drive it there w/o gettin into it. 14psi on stock injectors would be very bad with a 2871r.

Ya, I'm not sure if I can set it that low with a HKS can I? I thought the lowest you can set it to was like 12 psi?

i thought it was 7-14psi honestly, ud have to lengthen the arm to lower the boost. if it wouldnt go any lower thn i wouldnt drive it honestly because its gonna be running lean as hell with the stock 370s on worst case scenario id tow it. tow bill would be hella cheaper than engine rebuild imho

Driving that long of a distance would be fine, Just be very careful and stay off boost as much as possible would be my recommendation.

HKS 14psi would be good once tuned, but at the moment not worth it.. Your engine wont like you very much if your in boost on stock ECU Map.. AF/R will be thru the roof!

If you have AAA plus your good. But should you drive it with that turbo and bigger injectors you'll be able to make it just try to avoid boost.

I got my GT2871 .86ar dyno tuned at 10psi on stock injectors and it ran leaner than an N/A past 6000rpm, NOT GOOD!.

You are making damn near close to 200hp at 7psi so keep it there. But do yourself a favor and get injector, MAF, and tune and BAM 300hp, you will be soooo much happier.

Then you arent getting any benefits of the 71r. Might as well run a t25 if you refuse to do the supporting mods to make the turbo work as it should with your motor. I bet theres at least 40whp to be had from just injectors and a tune on both setups above.

OP, just keep it outta boost. No boost, no problem.

Stock injectors is not the problem...no having those injectors push extra fuel is the problem. If you run stock injectors, hope to god your not making more than 270whp since thats about the max those injectors can push out. Anything more than that, you're engines a fucking air pump.

yea, pretty much just don't get past say...2.5-3k rpm.

Sounds like the internal wastegate with the HKS actuator. Pull the pin and let the WG flap and you shouldn't risk going into boost. Just store the pin and clip in a safe place...

I'll be using my AAA Plus since I get 100 mile tow for free. I was just hoping to be able to drive it out there myself.

Oh, and I got the injectors already :) 740cc Tomei injectors. Thanks for the offer tho ;)

I'm hoping with my mods and a NISTune setup, to make around 320 - 350 HP. Couple that to the J30 VLSD, as well . . . all inside my 73' 240Z . . Well . . it should be fun!
