Hi all !

I've searched but did'nt found what I was looking for. I'm about to do a head gasket replacement on my KA24DE. I'm remaining stock. So far I have my head gasket set from flepro #HS26171PT witch should contain anything for the top end except the studs but I'm planning to re-use the same ones.

What I'm looking for is what NOT to do during that process. I'm no beginner but also not a professionnal and will do the job with a helper that knows his way around a motor too.

So, waiting for your input !!

P.S. : I own a FSM as well.

dont reuse the old head studs. some you can but you have to measure them for stretch to make sure they are still usable.

the dealership can get you some new ones really cheap.

but thats just me, I dont like to risk jobs like that.

Id also replace the valve seals while you got the head apart.

did you mill the head?

Since I'm a machinist I will check for warpage on the head and get it resurfaced if needed (most propably it will...)

Check the warpage if within specs your ok.. But since your machinist heck just do it anyways. Definitely don't re-use the old head bolts. Just get Fel-Pro set they are like 40 bucks at Autozone or something.

So I just ordered a fresh ARP head studs kit #165-5401, it's on it way over here.

Hope fully I will not strip my old studs when removing them ...

Well the job's finished !!!

First road test done, all is holding great, engine running strong.

I've replaced headstuds with ARP units.

Is there a break-in period after such a job ?

Will I need to retorque anything after a period of time ?

ARP says no re-torque needed on any of their stud products. If the initial torque procedure (nissan) / specs (ARP) were followed, you will be fine. Always check for seepage and or leaks.
