ok guys so im working on my buddies s14 (s14det). he is in the process of upgrading the power to.

gt2871
jgy top feed 550s
jgy tubular exhaust manifold
greddy type intake manifold
apexi afc

what i dont understand is that he plans on tuning everything with that apexi afc. ive never worked on one of those so i dont know what it can do. shouldnt he upgrade the maf also? isnt it easier to just buy a chippd ecu?

first off i don't think those 550's will do the trick on a 2871r...740cc is playing it safe.
next the afc is garbage, either reflash with dyno pulls to verify everything is good or a power fc engine mangement. they are an entry level standalone and can be had for very cheap. the piggyback (especially the safc/neo) are garbage, you will not have total control and it will be a shit tune. if he is upgrading all that a reflash is the best option. scott over @ enthalpy does great reflashes or steve shadows (if he goes the power fc route) can do remote maps.

first of all 550's arent big enough for a gt2871r. Second of all I would NEVER support anything that jgy sells or does because of how bad they screwed my friends car up. so ditch the jgy stuff and get some nismo/tomei sidefeed 740cc injectors and put them in a stock rail. Yes he needs a z32 maf and if he is going to tune it with an SAFC he needs a wideband to even road tune it. Look into an enthalpy rom tune since he is tuning s14 boards now. R.S. ya i been trying to tell him. i personally would never do business with jgy again.. they are the crappiest shop ive ever dealt with. i told him to try to get a jwt tuned ecu but the guys at jgy talkd him into going the afc route and he is stuck on it. those dudes practially sold him the whole upgrade stuff so its nothing new that they sold him those injectors also. they probably just had them on the self and needed to get rid of them.

ditch the AFC, the car will never run right if you try and tune it on AFC. Just wait till you can get a Power FC. you'll just be disappointed if you dont

If your friend wont listen to you, theres nothing you can do. You cant fix stupid. He'll learn his lesson the hard way. At least youll be able to say "told ya so."

Its a pretty straightforward upgrade, if you know what youre doing. 2871r, z32 MAF, 740cc injectors, and a JWT/Enthalpy burnt ecu. AFC is garbage. He could use the afc to fine tune after the ROM burn, but chances are the ROM tune will be pretty spot on.

he had orderd a clutch and flywheel setup from jwt and they sent him the wrong stuff and made him pay for all the additional shipping yet he still went and ordered all that stuff from them.. you cant fix stupid..

I know. That was the setup the previous owner (a friend of mine) had. I haven't even installed the motor in my car yet. I'll be doing a 2871r with supporting mods, so I'm not terribly concerned about the current condition of the t25. Surprisingly though, the a/f ratios weren't half bad. I'm sure the injectors were at 100% duty cycle though. I'll be running 9psi on the t25 until I'm ready to upgrade.
