I found this when I googled the question.

How to Build a 9000-rpm SR20DET Head (http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/how-to-build-a-9000-rpm-sr20det-head.html)

My question is, can you use a valve shim tool instead of a feeler gauge? If so, is the math the same for the clearences and the calculation of shim size? I have the test shims and a shim tool.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I tried it both ways and I'm getting two different numbers. I believe the CS shim tool is more accurate then the feeler gauge method, but Tomei suggests the feeler gauge method.

Can some please help.

The feeler gauge is quick and i like it, I also think the dial gauge is more accurate. Anyway your numbers fall somewhere in between or way off? just be anal and make a chart and order for both gauges. You can always tell people that you Over built the head!
