I am about to start dropping in an rb20 in a 89 coupe this weekend. I just have a few questions. Which is the easier and fastest way to drop it in? will it slide right in with the trans or will it be better without? Do I need to lower the crossmember so I can have room? I already have the mckinney mounts. Any help will be very appreciated. Thanks.

Lift the car up on four jackstands pretty high first. That makes things a ton easier. You may or may not hae to smash the firewall in the size of a baseball. No lowering of the crossmember is needed. And motor and trans together is super easy. Watch out for the two skinny power steering lines on the back of the steering rack and watch for the steering column catching on the turbo elbow when dropping it in.

when i put my rb20 in i kept the motor and trans bolted together, with the combined length i just had to pretty much get the engine vertical and then lower it in with someone lifting the tail end of the tranny to slowly level it out as it was lowered in. like the other guy said watch the turbo elbow and p.s. lines and have the car up high. should not have to dent the firewall in but it would make for an easier clutch job or tranny drop

I've had three rb's and I've tried all kinds of different ways, one time I cut the top of the core support out and then made brackets to bolt it back together which made it super easy,
Another way I've done it is, dropping the subframe and putting the motor on the subframe then putting it back in which is pretty easy as well

thanks for the help guys. motor is in. took me about 45mins. first, I had the chains on wrong. so I had to relocate them. once I did that, it was just a matter of manoeuvring the motor in. was a bitch doin it by myself, but I did it. once again thanks for the info.
