Im just wondering. I had a little fire under the hood and it melted the CAS cover. I havnt really looked to close at it cuz i thought it was dead. recently i was thinking maybe it was just the cover that was damaged and i can replace the cover and wireing harness and im good to go again. My question is...how does the CAS work exactly? what should i look for so i know if i need a new one or just need the cover? I figured I would ask while im stuck at work and maybe i can get some good feedback to go home with. Thank you in advance.

there is a really easy way to test if it even works but its going to require that you either A. remove the CAS from the head or B. pull the plugs and rotate the crank. Basically as the timing chain rotates, rotating the cam shafts, it signals the appropriate injector to fire. If you remove the CAS from the head, and plug it back into the harness with the ignition in the "on" position, you can rotate the gear by hand and listen for an injector to "click" if no noise is heard, its dead. If you go this route familiarize yourself with the timing assembly in the FSM; don't just start taking shit apart. There are also previsions in the FSM for appropriate electrical readings; so grab a multimeter.

Thanks for the reply. After I got home I took a good look at it...Its very dead. Now im in the market for one with a wiring harness on order. In the mean time I gotta do a leakdown test and see if that was to blame for my little mess. But good to know about the cas. Im going to start reading up about it now. Thanks.
