Shimming takes a machine shop like under an hour.
I got my head shimmed for 30 bucks. Always do it.

my question was would it just be easier to buy new springs (cuase i want new springs but its not really necessary at the time but will if i have to) or just to take the time and do the shimming myself

Shims and springs don't correlate or interrelate really.
You gotta read the FSM dude. Shims level on the back of the valve.
Whenever you take your head apart you should reshim. Leveling the rocker so cams dont wear. Springs are just springs and dont really do anything for the tolerances we are talking about here.

thanks.. so your sayin springs and rocker arms dont relate to the opening of the valves...
anyways, so a machine shop can solve my problem then and save me the headache so i can get on with my build
