I just asked a local guy that has done some really awesome body work around here (a perfectly restored 280z for one) what it would cost be for the best paint job he can do. He quoted me 1200 dollars! I was expecting quite a bit more; he's only going to charge me about 200 dollars to fix the rust spot on the rear hatch too, so I'm pretty happy.

Well that's not that cheap. What kind of paint? Flat black? What about other body imperfections? Is he fixin' that?

Cheaper than it could be. I'm pretty sure that includes sanding everything down, priming, the base paint (black) and two clearcoats.

I guess it's not that bad then. I got quoted about $1500 for pink at a major body shop here.

I'm not totally sure, I didn't ask. He said something about a base black paint, then clearcoat, then sanding the clearcoat down somehow (wet something or other?) and then another clearcoat over that.

i got quoted 3500 for a job. &nbsp;the remove all the body panels separatley and paint them individualy. &nbsp;the also remove all the weather stripping and put i back on after. &nbsp;and if its damaged they replace it. &nbsp;i think it was like 6 coats of paint with a clearcoat. &nbsp;dont remember how many clear coat layers

Yeah, he's going to sand out all of the rust and build it back up from behind, then fill it with metal. (no bondo on this car baby <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>)

My friend from Cleveland knows some guy in the ghetto that will paint your whole car for like $40.....they dont even prep it. &nbsp;Guess you get what you pay for. &nbsp;

BTW,
(in general... exotic colors like yellow or red cost more than others like black or white)
