I live in texas, so it definitely gets hot here but I think I've taken the proper precautions to make sure the car stays cool. I've bought a nismo thermostat and put in dual Altima fans with a temp relay and it's still getting hot. It overheated the first time and blew the headgasket, and I'll be damned if it does such a thing again.
Have you guys had this same problem?
I haven't replaced the radiator with an aftermarket one but I'm so tempted to now. This is very irritating because I built the car to drive but I've found that I'm babying it more than anything. It's pathetic.

how are you mixing the coolant?

how are you mixing the coolant?
50% water/ 50% coolant
Just whatever is bought from autozone.
What are you thinking?

need to make sure the inside of the rad is not clogged with corrision and crap.
If it is then the rad cannot cool the coolant properly.
also make sure that there is not crap blocking the flow of air through the rad.
try and replace the Rad cap (cheap)
Ive also see water pump fins rust away but usually its on KA's & RB's.
get an After market Coolant temp Gauge with an alarm so you can shut down the engine in time if it over heats again, (Stock temp gauge is garbage)

Good to know. Yeah the stock temp gauge, I believe, was originally installed to just piss me off. I'll check all those things.
Thanks for the info.

I think it gets hotter here 124 plus durring the summer.
i run about 205-210
3'' radiator
clutch fan
with oem t/stat
50/50 coolan
If it gets hot you need a thick radiator it helps allot.

start with the easy minor stuff that everybody seems to overlook, take care to car wash blast the shit out of the radiator clean it really good and make sure nothing is blocking air flow.

Besides check the obvious. Make sure there is no air trapped in your cooling system. Plus redline make an additive to reduce temps.
Red Line Synthetic Oil - Water Wetter® Coolant Additives (http://www.redlineoil.com/Products.aspx?pcid=10)
Hope this helps.

Get an Isis Radiator, you can get it for about $180 shipped if you contact Ken at Enjuku. Flush the engine to get all the crap out of it, then run the stock shroud and clutch fan. Make sure when you fit the shroud on the raditor, that there are not any gaps around the seal. The goal is to get as much air THRU the radiator and not around it. Then make sure the system is bled properly. Crank the heater on to max, pop the rad cap and massage the upper radiator hose. Better yet, you can invest on a coolant swirl pot that is designed constantly bleed the engine of air bubble.

well for your coolant to be most effective you need to have the proper mixture, 50/50...this is when the boiling temp is at its highest point, the freezing point its lowest, and when the its cooling potential its greatest.. but regardless it shouldnt be having a drastic change if it werent properly mixed..
another possibility is your cooling passages are beginning to get clogged..best thing to do is replace your radiator (Koyo/Mishi) and flush out the system properly, replace your water pump while your at it too

Well for what its worth acording to janmars thread he switch to a clutch fan and his car ran alot better, i think he has a 163*F thermo...The clucth fan produces more HP (just read thread)
But codyace say altima fans are still legit..so idk...
Either way check the easy stuff, many of which has been mentioned like :
Right amount of coolant/water
Make sure your rad is able to flow liguid through
Make sure you Fins are good and actually spin your pump
Make sure your system is bled (not sure about 240s on this one)
Make sure there is no air obstruction in front of your rad
Other than that i have no idea.

Do you have the stock fan shroud and fan clutch? You should put that on if you dont, also run the electric fan and run a aftermarket 3 core radiator

^^^^^not something to take to heart. if u plan on tracking ur car at a real track don't put anti-freeze in it. water works just as good u just have to check ur coolant level more often as water will evaporate faster than anti-freeze. but cooling is the same regardless of evaporation time cause the temps stay the same between the two.
i recommend getting an aftermarket radiator and keep the stock fan. that way u get the best of both worlds.
o and the clutch fan does take some hp away. but is the best way to cool the motor. u will sacrifice cooling for hp when going to e-fans.

flush the radiator first off, if problem continues then its one of your components, water pump, thermostat, fans etc. also some cars will run a bit hotter when just sitting at a light. this can be a water pump. upgrading the stock radiator wouldnt hurt either....

pure water isnt good either..what happens when water makes contact with certain metal? rust, mineral deposits, and other stuff that can clogg coolant guides..coolant has chemicals that prevent that
and how does a clutch fan take away horsepower? it ways lesss than a pound and rotates as fast as the engine is working, just a myth

Distilled water would work but then you would have to buy it buy the gallon. My car does feel more laggy since switching to the clutch/ shroud combination. It takes a parasitic loss off the engine roughly 2-3 percent. The fan is not the problem, it is the viscous clutch that propels the fan blades. As the engine heats up the fluid becomes thicker thus making the fan move faster as rpm increases. As the temperature goes down the fluid becomes less viscous and the fan does not move as much. Funny thing is when I run in high boost and run the car hard then drive normal for a while, my temperatures will increase say to 91 degrees. Then when I drive in low boost for a while it will actually decrease down to like 89 degrees or so. This was never the case with e-fans when I ran them. I think that is a good thing. You know that the fan is cooling the radiator coolant.
