it's a vg30 vs sr20 topic...ha! sorry to post and engine vs engine topic. but i finally narrowed my choices down to these to engines...i'm not going to be auto-xing, just pure drag, but i also want the car to be my daily driver...just need pros and cons for these two engines...opinions aren't necessary but if you want feel free...

i would go for the vg if your doin solely drag racing. you can make more power out of that engine (more displacement more cylinders)

IMO the VG30 doesn't make a good choice for a 240sx for any application other than to have something a bit different.

Did you want the VG30DETT? It may not fit, I'd say go with the RB26DETT if you have the money, I6 is always better than V6.

i'm pretty sure that the vg has more support here in the states than the rb...that's why i decided against it although the rb is a niiiiice motor...

you shouldnt have too much problem with wieght to the rear wheels. remember theres a weight transfer to the rear during acceleration. just try to mount it as far back if you want good traction. it should fit because the 300zx has a short but wide engine bay and the 240 has a pretty long engine bay. no problem fitting. not like its a huge engine.

i forget who exactaly, but some one in new york set up a strawberry face s14 to use the rb and vg. so it will work. in time. for drag, 6 is better than 4, but it sounds like poo.

when you say it sounds like poo, are you talking about the idea or the actual sound from the car??? if it's going to sound like fart in a can then i am going to get the sr, but i'd imagine with a large displacement, it wouldn't have that problem...

I just put an S14 SR in my car, and it's more than capable - after downpipe, exhaust, and upping the boost to 14 psi (although the S14 turbo can handle 16), I'll be running 13's. What are your goals for the quarter mile? 13's on the stock turbo is #### good - and that's a tiny T28. Imagine an SR with a T51 - you'd easily be in the 10's, with the right tuning. Unless you're trying to build a 6 or 7 second pro class fiberglass-chassis drag car, then there really is no point for the added money and effort of putting in the VG30. Spend the money you'd spend on the install of the VG30 on an upgraded valvetrain for the SR20, or a T51 turbo.

And BTW, Jun's hyper lemon silvia is a STOCK BODIED S14 running 8 second quarter miles - on the SR of course.

That vg is a very wide engine. I am sure it fits... but man, that is a wide engine. And as for the rb... I thought that it did not fit the dual turbos or something like that. IT was on this board someone said that there is clearance problems with the rb26.

The vg is a cool engine, and makes gobs of power, but all the good parts for it are still from Jun and toda and people like that, so are you really saving any time or effort over the sr? Look at most heavily modified vg's and it is all Japanese parts... and the parts are more expensive most of the time to boot, just cause you need more. Like you change your pistons? you need 6 instead of 4... things like that add, up, plus you have to upgrade 2 turboes not one.... lots of money.
