I just replaced my stock 97 wheel for a stock Silvia / 200sx wheel, and I'm at the stage where I need to do the wiring. My car is equipped with cruise control, so I've chosen to keep it. As you know, Silvia never got cruise ..etc etc. . ANYWAY. . I have followed the directions at http://importnut.net/steeringswap.htm , and the guy is extremely helpful, but I don't wanna bother him if this is a question that Zilvia can answer. :)

I've replicated the buttons for my cruise control by using 3 momentary buttons, and have mounted them on the lower half of my steering column. As you can see from the directions, particularly the "for dummies" drawing (which, of course, is what I'd wanna use haha. . ) you can see it mentions green wires... I have no green wires, but I have a harness running along my column that has a three wires, a space, and one more red wire. . I ASSUME that the 3 wires are for the cruise functions, and the last wire is for the horn. I'm 96.8% sure of it :D

Does anyone know if the wire colors on 97-98 differ from that of 95-96? (ESPECIALLY 95). . .

Thanks!!!! :p

Cruise control on my 97 has 3 wires: red with blue, blue with red, and yellow with red. Then there is the space in the connector. The next red with blue wire is for the horn.

Thanks :)

Are these wires located in the harness inside the wheel or on a harness running underneath the steering column? Just gotta verify, but that sounds right. . .

So far I like it :D
subtle difference, but notably more comfortable . .and freshens it up a bit, as that wheel was never really used on the last car.

Looks good!

The three wires with harness come from under the steering column. They connect into the cruise control module (the thing with the three buttons) harness. I don't remember how it all went togather before I swaped the wheel but that is how it is now. Hope this helps.

cool!! I appreciate it .. I've decided to mount my buttons on that panel on the underside of the new wheel. . but it's not working right haha. .

I dunno what I'm doin' right. . the wire colors are the same, and I'm positive the horn is hooked up correctly. . so that leaves 3 other wires. .

I think it's just a matter of time I guess. .

I'm tapping into this harness (small removable harness that is inside the wheel itself)

and my wiring is currently this way:

haha I suck at wiring, but I'm PRETTY sure I got the switch right. . the diodes are facing the correct way

:dunno: :)

I don't know. It's wierd because I have a factory service manual for 1997 and it lists wire colors at the "ASCD Steering Switch" as Green/Orange going to Resume/Accel, Green/Yellow going to Set/Coast, and Green/White linking them all and going to a horn relay. But the actual wires in my car are Blue/Red, Red/Blue, and Yellow/Red and then the other red wire for the horn ground.

If you plug the stock control unit (ASCD Steering Switch) into that harness in you picture does everything work alright? All I can say to do is keep trying different wiring combinations until one works or crack open the stock steering wheel switch to see what wires go to what buttons. Maybe you need to switch the yellow/red wire with the red/blue one.

Yupyup .. when I plug it in, it works alright. . maybe I should just go ahead and mount my stock buttons on the side of the wheel haha. . I really want it to work the way I have it though, would be a bit more smooth.

It's all in the name of learning

I appreciate the replies, btw :D

Wonder why they have two different color schemes? haha
