View Full Version : "Timeless" rim styles?
TurboSE

the past two sets of rims I bought were discontinued shortly after I purchased them...Axis Mach V (don't laugh, I liked em back in the day) and Racing Hart C5 (3 piece)....and now I'm in the market again...
I'm looking for rims that have been around for awhile and probably aren't gonna be discontinued anytime soon (opinion)....I can't see the TE37 going away...some for the Professor SP1....any others? Work Equip?

Lol I think work equip's might have already been discontinued. Classic styles really consist of either 5 spoke wheels (ssr professors) and mesh style (work vsxx). Those simple designs have been around for decades, especially the mesh (F1, Indy, LeMans). The TE37's are timeless as well and it seems no matter what car you put them on it looks good. I say you are on the right track. I would look into a quality 5 spoke design (profs, equips, vs-kf, etc).

let's see what these wheels are gonna be on so we can get some ideas.
I like meshies on some cars and 5 spokes on others.

why does it matter if they discontinue them after you buy?

Not to keen on the new rims, most of the rims i've rolled on are all discontinued or old skool. But the ones you have mentioned wont be going away any time soon. I don't see the Volks TE37 fading away.

Do you see center caps on my wheels? Work no longer produces this style equip and doesn't have the gold center caps. Unfortunely one of mine broke and all they have to replace it is a $50 silver one. I would have to think getting parts for the wheels, and replacing one if it can't be fixed would be good enough reason to not buy discontinued wheels.

CR KAI's are a Modern Classic, as are Rays 57 Maximums . Plus Meshie's and lipped wheels are out. Its all about Concave these days. Don't get me wrong SSR Meshie's, Watanabe's were cool, but they are so yesterday.
Its Almost like Running the old American Libre's which were the shit on 510's and 240Z's all through the 70's- into the mid 80's. The mid 80s was when Meshies became the rage. BBS Meshies ,Compomotive Meshies , Epsilon Meshies. Enkies were like the low end. LOL
Honestly I don't think wheels are timeless, when I was younger and more foolish I did. Then I watched as the so called timeless wheels disappeared and were no longer timeless. LOL Now the fact is you don't see race cars running dished meshies. You seem them running large mesh quite often concave. Ferrari Le Mans cars run Concave large mesh BBS.
You see a lipped wheel sometimes in F1 but that is quite often only because its a extremely wide when and even then you see a lot of faced or Concave wheels.
Fact is lip on wheels is played. Be nostalgic call it timeless. Its not. Classic? Maybe. Timeless? LOL everything fades away.
That out to piss someone off. LOL

I'm with Drift Freaq on this one, Work CR Kais, and Rays 57's are the modern wheels of today. And its definitely a lot about concavity rather than lips. Just look at how played the mb battle is, because its a good looking, inexpensive concave wheel in good sizing. 5zigen also has some good concave wheels.

This. You can run LMs from modern day M3s to E30 M3s from the 80 and it will still look good and not out of place.

Timeless means not period specific. I would not see Watanabes and BBS RS working that well on say a 370Z or NSX.

I didn't think about BBS LM, I'll have to find some pics on an S13 and see if I like em. I've been leaning towards SSR Prof. SP1's...When I originally said Work Equips, I meant Meisters...brain fart....a lot of good suggestions here...why does picking rims have to be so difficult?
