I figured I should post my build here to, I started this post in the Nico convertible forums. Just so everyone knows I am not doing this myself.
I reserched everything bought all the parts and gave the shop everything. I did do some things but I wanted the motor done fast and right,
I spent alot on this and I didn't want it sitting around or getting screwd up.
But that aside I'll kick this off and hope everyone likes it, please leave me feedback.
This is my 1993 240sx Vert

The old KA24DE (will put in classifieds later, does have a 5 speed trans)
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/ghost_22_47/Car%20project/SU1HMDAwNzMtMjAxMDAyMTMtMTEyMy5qcGc.jpg
Out with the old and in with the RB
This RB26DETT is from R32 purchased from JDMofMiami
Will be using Syko Performance Mounting kit

Stock Turbos

I did put the Tein Super Drift Coilovers on and ran into a convertible issue that some of you may already know.
The re-enforcment for the vert sits right over the rear coilover dampener adjustment and will actually hit the adjuster.
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/ghost_22_47/Car%20project/SU1HMDAwNTktMjAxMDAxMTYtMTYxNC5qcGc.jpg
The solution??? DREMEL!!!!
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/ghost_22_47/Car%20project/SU1HMDAwNjEtMjAxMDAxMTYtMTY1MC5qcGc.jpg
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/ghost_22_47/Car%20project/TeinInstall.jpg
I also installed the Circuit Sports Coolant tank, but I had an issue with mine.
IT LEAKS!! but it can be fixed or replaced, it leaks alot from the cooland level tube.
It also didn't bolt right in it had to be bent to fit right. The bottom bracket I just broke off (purposely), the bracket has to be broken or taken off to fit.
then I screwd on one of the bolts lightly and bent it until the other lined up.
Really its easy to just wing it and bend to fit.
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/ghost_22_47/Car%20project/SU1HMDAwNjktMjAxMDAyMTMtMTEyMC5qcGc.jpg
Next I put a triple gauge pod in place of the center vent, it is aluminum so it bends easily.
Unlike the coolant tank I did not bend this. Heres what I did, because the pod is longer than the vent slot, just by a very little bit,
I cut the left side and right side inner ledge so I could just lock it in on both sides.
If this is confusing I can take more pics and explane more indepth just messege the post or email me.
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/ghost_22_47/Car%20project/SU1HMDAwNzctMjAxMDAyMTMtMTMzMC5qcGc.jpg
Thats all I have for self installs but here are some pics of the other parts that are going on,
I'll also post a list of parts or you can look in my profile.
Kaaz 1.5 LSD is in the big brown box next to the Apexi intake kit.

It's been a bit since I updated with more pics I've been busy getting more
parts I need (nismo transmission mount, 240 auto tranny crossmember,
magnetic drain plug, the newest hks type 1 turbo timer, GTR R32 Wheels)
They were mounting the motor for hopefully the last time ha ha ha
(words from the Techs mouth)
All the parts on the two shelves in the background (yeah all of it for this)
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/ghost_22_47/SU1HMDAxNjktMjAxMDA0MDEtMTY0Ny5qcGc.jpg
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/ghost_22_47/SU1HMDAxNzAtMjAxMDA0MDEtMTY0Ny5qcGc.jpg
These are the R32 GTS-T wheels if anyone wants to buy them
they look tiny compared to the GTR wheels in the other picture.
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/ghost_22_47/SU1HMDAxNzItMjAxMDA0MDItMTU0Mi5qcGc.jpg
R32 GTR 16x8 wheels
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/ghost_22_47/SU1HMDAxNzQtMjAxMDA0MDItMTU0NS5qcGc.jpg
I'll have some more pics a few days hopfully they'll have my valve covers
back on so it'll start to look a little cleaner.

Another update
Got another set of deliveries of parts today
GTR wheels how they will look on the car.
30mm rotor
5 lug conversion
Red Rays lug nuts
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/ghost_22_47/SU1HMDAxODgtMjAxMDA0MDYtMjExNy5qcGc.jpg
Nismo Transmission mount
There was a mix up with the order I had to order a set
but they sent me 2 Transmission mounts and 1 Engine mount
So the 1 Trans mount and the 1 Engine mount are for sale in the classifieds.
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/ghost_22_47/SU1HMDAxOTQtMjAxMDA0MDYtMjEzNS5qcGc.jpg
And I got the new HKS Type 1 Turbo Timer
Also bought a new Black Apexi Turbo Timer with Amber lighting
but I'm now selling that too in the classifieds.
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/ghost_22_47/SU1HMDAxOTUtMjAxMDA0MDYtMjEzNi5qcGc.jpg

I wish I had some better pictures but it was dark where the car was.
The engine is fully mounted in and it fits way better than I thought it would.
The valve covers are back mounted on, and the radiator is in but I'm
almost positive that will be in and out with the crank pulley not being here
yet.

Last Picture is of the motor, I'll have more pics thursday
http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/ghost_22_47/SU1HMDAyMTMtMjAxMDA0MjQtMTA1Ny5qcGc.jpg
Also picked up 88 300zx BMC
Brembo OE S14 Rotors for the S14 Rear brake conversion
Nismo Short shifter for RB25
JUST A WORD OF CAUTION
CHECK YOUR ECU
make sure the part number matches the motor, someone on here pointed out that my motor
wasn't a R33. (yeah that was my bad)
BUT the ECU that was sent with the engine was a R33 N1 ECU (2371M-24U00) as you can see my motor isn't an N1
if it was I'd be doing a happy little dance in my living room :woot: ha ha ha
SO I researched the best guess ECu for my motor and went with a 23710-05U61 early 93 round-a-bouts
and is being sent to AutoVaughn Performance in Murfreesboro, TN for a NIStune Type-2 package (board install,
cable, software etc..) As soon as I get that in I'll let everyone know how it is. They also told me they have a R33 block,
Crank, etc all togeather not stripped yet that they are looking to get rid of. He's sending me pictures and I'll be putting it in the forum if it's a good enough deal I may grab it.
P.S. to a previous post I have a Viper 350 already waiting to go in and brand new top, headliner, rear window and cables
after everything else is set and the car is moving.
Thanks again guys for all the comments and support need any help or info let me know

Just got my new tires put on, the 225/55 16 that were on the GTR wheels rubbed because they are
8in's wide and the very corner of the tire hit the back towards the door,so I threw on some Maxxis V-1 225/45 16
and they work really well. Not to mention they look wicked nice on the car.

Finally almost done
All that is left are the radiator hoses and the S14 ebrake cables and then it's the first start up and lots of system

get some videos up on youtube also.

The next pictures I'll have will be the motor with all the carbon fiber and everything complete
Here it is, dropped off the Samco RB25DET Radiator hoses and checked the fitment and they need alittle trimmiing like
others have said but they will fit near perfectly. Waiting on ebrake cables and breather hoses.

I wanted to do a s14 front but spent way to much to do that.
but I am doing carbon fiber R32 N1 front vents in the stock bumper
for added cooling to the radiator

Some others I want to do is a carbon fiber rear diffuser, r32 stock
dark gray paint and Origan smoked taillights the rest is undetermind.

why not hit it with a sil front, are those the wheels you are going to run or they just to get you around till you get something else?

The Silvia front is way overdone and on mine I dont want the Silvia front, I was thinking S14 or R32 but I'm going to leave it for now and swap a front on later.

These are the wheels I am sticking with for a long time the only other wheels I'd switch to are Volks special edition TE37 Time Attacks in a 17x not sure what width. But I love my GTR wheels

similar to my build...mines a 92 coupe...

Things I dig:
Mishi IC...very cool, love the stealth look
HKS BOV...see above
Syko kit...awesome kit, great quality
GT-R steering wheel...might just have to get one for my build...very classy..
Autometer gauges...screw the flamers, they work, they're priced right...just wished they had metric sending units...BSP sucks!

Things I'd bury:
Spec clutch...just don't trust em...hope you have better luck than some of my friends (no RB's, but still not the best luck)
HKS Carbon coil covers...just look out of place to me...I'm not a big fan of carbon though...

All in all....great build, props.

What kind of swaybar are you running, I cut my pan just like you did (from the Syko SuperStreet article) and my Suspension Techniques bar still rubs slightly. Is it a Whiteline?

Thanks, The carbon fiber covers arn't the HKS ones thats what makes it different, I could use the actual Nur GTR engine emblem with this one. I had to order this from Australia, I love the look of it and it is way different from just powder coating it.

The sway bar is a 30.5mm Tanabe, if yours rubs then this would be worse. Yours I think is a 28mm

Ok here's is an update, sorry didn't get anymore pics yet.
The car was quickly started Wendsday and ran for a few then the front coil pack started to smoke and lit on fire!!!! I am assuming it was just a small flame but it sucked.
On top of that the water pump pulley was bent so at high rpm it would fly off
So that day I called JDM of Miami, where I got the engine and trans from and he had a set of coil packs with brackets, the water pump pulley and the breather hoses and he shipped them USPS Express from FL and I had them today. Rushed over to the garage and dropped off everything including the
S14 e-brake cables so I can now have a e-brake.
So if you need a part check with Carlos at JDM of Miami he's a great guy and has a large selection of parts in his warehouse, it cant hurt to ask if your looking for something you really need thats JDM.
Also I will have a huge amount of used and never used stuff for sale, examples are new never used just mounted Mishimoto oil cooler with block lines and cooler, new never opened apexi turbo timer, oem Nissan rb26/300sx oil filter new in boxes so on so forth

Honestly, I didn't even realize the covers aren't Kansai ones...yours do look better, carbon is just a little too bling for me. I went with wrinkle black powder coat, but I'm doin the whole stealth look all over. To each his own.

I believe you're right, my swaybar is 28mm...it slightly...very slightly rubs on the weld in one spot (about 3/4" wide), but the motor isn't installed...it's sitting on the x-member for now so maybe when it's installed it won't touch...because our cut/weld on the pan looks almost identical.

I almost went with a vert for my S13/RB26 build, but I was worried about chassis flex. What are your plans for a cage etc?

Once again, awesome build...keep us updated!

lol, if I were you I'd sell for $25k.

240 chassis + rb26 = $12000 at best (aftermarket resale for any performance you do is slim to none). But then again I live in Canada. Local advertisments here have these engines at $2500, and full R32's rod knock yet working at $5000.

now all that negative BS I was just talking about... Good build, I'd love to do the same if I wasn't already 'pot committed' to my KA-T

Here is a little update

Had to get another new N1 water pump, mine was damaged in shipping so it wabbled, also got a new ignitor and ignition coil wiring sub-harness and some new injector connectors hopfully they work. I searched to see if I could find out what type I needed and I came up with EV1 connectors as what style they were, I'll let you know if they dont work or if they do. Heres some pics of the connectors, I got two types normal EV1's and Low profile EV1's .

Ok here's some actual updates with pics
It's running on 6 cylinders now, aparently it had an extra ground wire which wasn't even in the diagram.
Water pump issue is happening now.
Notice the origanal Water pump has just a single hole
but the N1 has a oblong hole? Well the hole is so big it doesn't match up to the block and coolant sprayed out. Needs to be welded and then re-drilled. I have 2 N1's and it was on both of them, probably because it's for the RB25 and RB26 I think.

damn you car pretty sick. why did you pick a vert 240

I got into the 240sx scene in Fort Hood, where it was HUGE when I was there. Coupes and Fastbacks everywhere and SR's and RB25's but no Verts (NONE) and never saw a RB26. So I decided I wanted a Vert with a RB25 but then decided to try and do the RB26 swap which I didn't think anyone ever had tryed in the Vert so that's when I started planning, That was 2007. Now it's just because I hate AC and I love the Top down ha ha ha.

Before I got the Vert, my wife made me choose either a R32 GTR or my vert build and I decided haveing a GTR would be alittle more of an issue legally than the vert and then I got really into it.

I am such a picture whore ha ha
It runs and drives pretty well except for a few issues.
Idle drops into a quick bog after a rev up.
Small crack in the oil pan but it's not dripping
And one bigger issue, the boost creeps up to 21PSI

THOSE Wheels look great on that car and really set it apart from your average S chassis on sportmax RIMS. Stock R32 wheels look great. I would only change to a lower profile tire and slam that car hard on those coils. Trust me, you'll need tires soon. My RB25 hatch loves to shred them.

I painted my Intercooller collector pipe with High heat caliper paint, I painted my valve covers with the same stuff and they look great, so I dont think this will light on fire or anything. I looked at the side of the valve cover that is sitting right next to the turbos and it still looks like it did when I painted it.

i believe your timing is supposed to be 27 degrees ideally

smelly240
08-19-2010, 10:16 AM
27 degrees eh? Not sure when you're speaking of - but at some rpm/load thats right.

base timing should be 20... pull the tps and it should read this - or put it in timing mode with NDS/consult...

At idle it'll jump all over (and have ect and iacv compensation for timing and will probably be zipping all about like a pixie).

Thanks, right now it's in good running condition but I've already started a 2nd motor build up while I drive it as is. This new motor will have everything from a fully measured and reconditioned head with new cams valves ETC to forged internals N1 24U block and new turbos.

Here you go guys, I torn my engine apart (well a good amount of it) Sunday to torque down the head bolts and check some stuff.
The headbolts did move some
Tear down took 1 hr to 1.5 hrs wasn't keeping track just know my wife showed up from work just in time for the aftermath and devistation of my only vehicle in peices in her dads garage ha ha ha.
The pics are in order of my disassembly

Well after all of that I threw it all back together
Started it
AND
Smoke and s**ty idle
Played with the CAS and IAAC while the wife screamed out RPM's and A/F numbers and the outcome?

Perfect (so far)
Idle is alittle high at start up (1000)
but the A/F is dead on 14's at idle and cruise and under boost is at 11-12 no smoke no bogging and it doesn't burn crap loads of fuel anymore. It only took 20 mins of anger and plumes of smoke out the back and very unsteady idleing.
The shop never adjusted any of it (or not enough) because now it runs great

Just pick this up from Jon at the Kaizen tuning BBQ
I need some suggestions for a quick paint set up, the car will eventually be gunmetal color but for now I'm trying to decide painting the whole bumper red to match OR doing two tone with red above the black line around the car and Gloss black everything below like the Silvia, the bumper has the lines to match well.

Basicly I had a large budget but with all the other parts I couldn't spend the $300-$500 on any of the others. I got that from Nissan Japan for $100 New. Also it said it in the Syko install guide on the web because that is what I used.

In response to everyone about the sum. Yeah BELEIVE ME I hate it too but the breakdown is that car was 3500, 20,000 somthing on parts and the killer was 10,000 on labor. My wife and I live in an apartment and I didn't have the time and the place to even attempt doing it. So to get it done I had to put it in.

The parts that I was going to get with the money that went to labor were new GT2860 turbos, 550cc injectors, 300zx MAF's, Greddy collector piping18x9 and 18x10 BBS LM-R's, Kouki front conversion, NRG carbon fiber seats and a full carbon fiber steering wheel setup just to name a small bit.

These parts are still on the list but now I have to do a pay check by pay check thing but atleast it's not a I CAN'T FINISH IT situation, I atleast get to drive it.

Can't believe you spent 37,000 on this car.

That labor bill is mind blowing though, I can't believe it cost that much for the work they did to your car. They didn't do any custom fabrication, You bought an engine mount kit and new cross member. I had to have a shop do my build for my car as well and the total cost of my build was a hair under 13,500 and All the stuff for my car was one off custom. either way good luck with the rest of build, I could tell why you weren't getting into it. During decel the car didn't sound healthy. I'd get the setup you have running perfect before considering exterior modifications. Have fun with it and goodluck.

I fully agree with Nick_04 on this though, This car has way too much money invested into it for what the OP is getting out of it. The car isn't even running healthy! What the shop did the work, then just shrugged when it came time to make it run...? If you are having problems you should take it in and have them work on it till it runs like it should. For 10K in their pockets they can give you a turn key car that will work and run like it should.

Yeah I bought the Godspeed because I thought they'd be better than the junk I got but I'll fix it and use it until I get either Greddy or crack the bank for Nismo.

I've got a lot more parts in the future so don't think I cheaped out with one poorly bought part. Twin GT2871R-10's, Nismo Injecdtors, 300zx MAF's, Nismo Intake Manifold(back of the list because it's $2500) yada yada yada.

I want to make it clear to everyone (specially "Mr. Johnson") that i was not hating in any way shape or form. I was just asking questions and stating my personal shock in the same sentences.

The car is wonderful and has been done up quite nicely, i was just surprised that you (Ghost 22 47) dropped that much coin on the things you have and don't really have any real purpose for the car. Besides your personal enjoyment of course.

Im absolutely positive that if this car stays in your hands it will get all the attention it needs to match the hefty price tag though haha. Your doing a great job with it.

The purpose is still a mystery to me, at first I was building it for drift but now I may switch that to light track day use. It's really just for my enjoyment, working on it, driving it, and talking to people about it. It's a hit everywhere I go and I want to tune it to be an awesome track day car. Not for compatitions or anything right now but like if someone were to buy a Ferrari or Lamboghini (not that I'm trying to say it even compares to the quality or performance) but it's not a winter beater or a cross country car it's a car built with the drivers enjoyment in mind as well as performance, handleing and possible race bred applications on a street vehicle.

When I finish everything to the car, 500-600hp with a dead flat TQ curve to match.

500whp is easy with upgraded turbos (garrett gt2860r -5), injectors (750cc), and tune. I highly recommend adjustable cam gears it can make a world of a difference. If you have extra cash get some 262 cams and make sure you get the shims measured perfectly or you head will sound like its knocking and will eventually do some damage.

I am not sure if this was ever brought up but your intercooler piping is small you want to match the piping off the twin turbo pipe which is I think 3". Also there is a modification you can do to the twin turbo pipe that supposedly helps with flow. A plate is welded on the end where the air from the turbos merge. Look it up.

As far as the coilpack failure. I would add grounds to the ignitor box and the coilpacks. The grounds for both are very weak and can hinder power when raising boost.
If that does not fix your problem get ngk copper plugs (bkr8e for 400whp OR bkr9e for 500+whp) and gap them down to 0.6

nice build good luck and have fun.

That is the setup I'm looking at but may change later. I pretty much have everything planned out.

I was skeptical of the piping size at first but I have had no issues with it and the response is instant.

It's the actual coils they are old and this has happened before with another one, replaced it and it was fine. I'm also already running a gapped down set of coppers.

No haven't done them because I would have to do the whole IC piping all over. I'm going to sell the pipes most likely, need money right now and not to happy with the quality. So I'm just going with 'you live and you learn' and hopefully it will stop someone else from buying it.

Cool build but man you spent a ton of money on appearance shit but have a engine that doesn't run properly.

Honestly you drive a s13 vert with a ton of power, you really don't need to spend money on carbon fiber stuff and instead just spend it on building a proper engine.

Just my opinion, I couldn't do anything even close to building a car like this. It is fucking awesome.
