sr redtop coz you can find them low mileage and not lose an arm and leg paying for it.
i wants the ca18 if it's likely to find one with low mileage.

SR20det mofo!! After much research and thought, that's what my poison will be. I've got a private test only center smog hook up, and enough knowledge about them SR's -> swapping the motor into other people's cars (guinea pigs! haha!) Plus, the SR is lighter than the KA. SR with turbo plumbing and shiet is still lighter than NA KA24DE. 300hp at the wheels SR is all I'm looking for. Fast spool up and lightweight. See you guys at the touge.
IMO, i think KA-T is the way to go, plus, its cheaper. The SR is gonna become very expecive since the drift scene has blown up. Puts out more power than an SR, SR puts what... 170-190hp at the wheels? Greddy's KA-T kit puts 215-220 at the wheels? but if i had to choose JDM engine, id say S14 black top SR.

i think that putting a turbo kit in a ka motor is the most dumbest thing you've ever put in your car. it cost $3000 US. the only way i would buy a ka-t kit if the engine is new or has a few thousand miles on it, thats it. for $3000, you could get a sr20det motor with less mileage and more reliable than a ka24de. also, 250 hp in the wheels on an sr20 det only requires an exhaust and an intake.

can you show me how thats done? because none of my friends with SRs are putting that to the wheels with their intake + exhaust.

People have done a turbo KA for much less, some have done it for more, putting a set price on something like that is crazy.

Jesus himself couldn't prove that the SR is more reliable than the KA, and neither can you. And considering the reason why people buy engines that have been sitting in a junkyard for who knows how long or have just been pulled out of some drifter's crashed ride (hint: it's not to drive their "new" $2000+ engine like a grandma), reliability shouldn't even be an issue. People shouldn't be expecting their SR to last forever when they punish it all the time...
Don't forget that an intake and exhaust cost money, at least $600 US, so you're up to 3600 going by your numbers, if you're lucky. There's a lot of little things that go along with doing a swap, and with the cost of SRs going up and away I wouldn't expect to have a properly done swap for less than 4 Gs.
can you show me how thats done? because none of my friends with SRs are putting that to the wheels with their intake + exhaust.
He forgot the part about the boost controller...
Oh oops, what is thread about again? Oh yeah...
I choose a blacktop SR, because it's more discrete than the redtop. :eek3d:

He forgot the part about the boost controller...
...for the people who know, a SR with a 3 inch exhaust automatically boosts 10lbs. Most turbo cars will automatically boost more with a uncorked exhaust. That still doesn't translate into 250 at the wheels. That and the fact that the MAF takes a crap right before 250, and the stock turbo craps at 12-14psi.
I choose a blacktop SR, because it's more discrete than the redtop.
I got a can of black crinkle paint for you Salty, even less conspicous than a glossy valve cover. :p

...for the people who know
I know that
Most people seem to make 240-250whp at around 1 bar, which would require some sort of boost controller. Of course the turbo and maf aren't going to like it that much, but it does work. How long it'll last is, umm... :Ownedd:

Eww spray paint? Flat black powdercoat would be cool, but a dirty blacktop would probably be most inconspicuous. :coold:

guys.. lets not start.. its getting old
I'd go with blacktop SR, I think SR is the best engine choice for 240sx. It wont upset the balance of the car since this is the engine choice that nissan engineers decided to put into the S chassis.
plus, I like the simplicity of SR swap into 240sx. and you will still have room in the engine bay since its still a 4 banger.. more room = looks cleaner

I thought it was easier to get parts for the CA because of the pulsar here in the states. Bah timing chains and roller rockers....

shitty? got my redtop sr for $1395 w/ a warranty. really clean motor too. i got pics to prove it. how much can you get a ca for? they stop producing those iron block CA motors because they made a better motor - the SR. which has been produced for the last 15 years or so.

You made out with that motor for that price. Thats respectable. They stopped producing the CA because it was costing to much to build.

Now now, it's all about the opinion that we have. Some like the SR, some don't. It all depends on application, and what someone is setting out to do.
