alright guys. i need your expert advice. My bro-in-law has some major problem with his 240sx where car is getting power put not turning on.

well he has a 91 240sx w/kade. what he explained was that he was installing some speakers and he crossed the wires. (not sure but i think he crossed the amp speaker wire. *Moron*) and there was sparks. So his stereo was working but wasnt getting any audio.

I stepped in and fixed his stereo, installed a spare head unit. and was getting sound. so it was all good.

He drove for about 2 days and while driving he heard a buzzing sound coming from the speaker. Pulled over turned off the car, tried to turn it on and it wasnt turning on. HL, dash light turn on but wont crank. ALSO when the key is out the dash light are on. and when tryin to turn on i hear the relay clicking ACC and the relay on the passenger side next to the battery.

Which now i assume has a short-circuit. now my question is where do i start?

had similar problem, and i changed my lower harness but i already did that.

Any help or ideas?

thanks.

UPDATE: i checked all the fuses and relays and everything seems to be good. I got a circuit tester one with the light and there are no shorts circuits.

I been reading few threads regarding the Interlock relay, if relay clicks wiring is ok? and bad starter. Well i went to bang the starter and solednoid and It cranked. but now i have to give it gas in order for it to stay running.

Now could the starter solenoid be bad and wont have the starter running to keep the car on? or the starter motor is shot.

also dash light are off when ignition is off. but when the key is on or acc the dash light are dim with out the headlight being on? Would the starter be causing this?

Any help?

KA starters go bad constantly. Tapping the starter (solenoid) will only temporary fix the issue. You should get another starter. Easy to install. only 2 (14mm) bolts and 2 wires, very easy to access.

With regards to the lights, there is a dimmer switch which will dim or brighten your dash lights. Located on the left of the steering column. In addition, I sense that your combination switch is bad. (Combination switch is the headlight turn on/off switch stick) These tend to go bad as well. This could mean that your lights are being left on after you exit the car due to the faulty combo switch. This makes sense when you said the keys were out and dash lights still on.

I've changed my combo switch before and they do go bad, just another 240sx common bug.
