View Full Version : Wierd electrical issue: e-brake light, wipers, turn signals, etc.

All of this stuff happened at once while I was tracking the car today. The first thing I noticed was the e-brake light on the dash came on so I pulled the car off track and checked out the common symptoms. Everything seemed fine so I kept on driving. On the way home I noticed there's a whole bunch of issues:

-Wipers won't turn off once turned on
-Wiper intermitent speed doesn't work at all
-Turn signals do not work
-E-brake light on all the time UNLESS I'm on the gas
-Car dies as soon as I start it unless I give it some gas, then it idles just fine

I have no idea what caused this but I assume there's a short or something somewhere. Any help would be really appreciated, have to get back to the track tomorrow for day 2.

Sounds like your wheel rubbed against the wiring harness and shorted out. Check the harness underneath the wheel well for any damage.

this was what happened to me, my headlights started going up and down and shit while i was drifting.

Yep, this was the problem. Thanks for the tip, going to zip tie it out of the way for tomorrow and hope for the best.

Think it's safe to try and repair this or should I replace the whole harness?

Depends. If you're good with wiring, know how to solder, and will seal it up properly after finishing, I would repair. If you just plan on half-assing it and taping it up like a band-aid I would get another harness.

Set some time aside since you do track it and do a legit wiring repairs, saves you money but you spend more time on it.

Just pull out the dash and pull the harness through the firewall and relocate to the engine bay.

It looks easy enough to fix for someone with an FSM and know how to solder.
