So this all started about two weeks ago, the day before lone star bash. I have an 85 Corolla SR5. She was running great, just put the new head gasket on her and she ran like a dream. Sat night I get off work and I am driving home through the neighborhood and about a block from my house I see some dirt in the road. Well it was in the middle of a bend and it wasn't till i was right up on it that I then saw that this was pretty much a speed bump made of dirt. I hit it going about 30mph, the car slams down and rolls to a stop because the motor shut off. I tired to restart it but no luck, so my roommate that was in the car with me and I push it back to our house. I thought that it might have skipped a tooth so i reset the timing to TDC and got her to start again. took her around the block. Felt slugish so I got on the gas to see what would happen. about 3500rpm she fell on her face. This is the main problem I have been trying to fix. I popped the dizzy cap off and found oil inside, so i replaced the dizzy. Now the car would rev to 4K but still miss fire and fall on her face she also struggles to get up in revs and sounds like coffee grinders, but at idle sounds normal. I keep seeing unburnt fuel get shot out the carb so I am thinking its got to be a timing issue. I play with timing to death. last Tuesday I reset the timing to TDC again on the crank and dizzy and readjusted the valves. Got her to start up but still falls on her face around 4K. Now in neutral if i just put on my foot on the gas and not give it full throttle she can walk up to 5K but thats it. After playing with timing and reworking vac lines still no effect. Now this all started after I hit a dirt speed bump so maybe it was something in the wonder 4ac van and electronic controlled carburetors. I picked up a carb today and installed it and set all the vac lines to oem spec. she will now go to 5K but thats her limit and I still get the coffee grinder sounds. I am almost at wits end here, any help or advice, hell something different to look at would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
