View Full Version : horrible cam problem.

the cars out of time and we were working on rotating the chain around two the two light links. well my friend didnt finish loosening up the other cam, so now one cam was loose and the the sprocket was spinning freely while we were bumping the ignition so only the exhaust side was rotating. how can i get the cams back in the right working order? the intakes first lobe is around 3 o clock. where should the exhaust's be?

First off, which motor are you working on?

sorry, its an SR. but we put the motor back together, and tightened up the intake cam at 11 while the exhaust was at 1. once we got it timed right, we put it all back together, and now you can just hear the cams clicking when we try to start it. how can we figure out the exact location for the intake?

You need to pull it apart and start again with motor at TDC. Don't try to mess around and find your way from half way through. There is a pin that holds the chain on the crank sprocket so pull the cam gears and the tensioner and start from there like you just put the head on.

this isnt just getting the chain in time. the cams are out of whack and when trying to start the car you can just hear them click. do i start with both cams at 12 o clock and keep rotating till the two silver links line up and the pulley marks line up?

you should download the fsm and reset the cams in the exact way described there. the clicking you are hearing is probly the valves slamming into the piston tops due to improper time. start over now so you dont ruin your motor completely.
