I read several posts about overheating but none seem to mirror what Im experiencing.

I have an S13 SR and I run a Koyo with dual 12" fans. I was running really hot before so I decided to do a flush and change the thermostat. I just installed a nismo thermostat, did a flush and fill, and im using water wetter. I left the rad cap off and ran the car at idle for about 10 minutes to bleed the system. When I was done I took the car for a 10 minute spin. The temperature gauge read fine and I didn't notice any signs. When I got home though I shut off the engine and popped the hood to check everything. There was a pretty loud bubbling/boiling sound. It was loudest in the overflow but once the overflow stopped making noise, the engine itself was making a bubbling noise for another few minutes until i turned the fans on to cool it off.

Could it just need bled more? It seriously sounds like its boiling.

My temperature gauge is only a few months old so I doubt its reading improperly.

also, i noticed a little bit of fluid dripping from the water neck.
i was going to use rtv as the gasket but against my judgement the dude at autozone convinced me to get an actual gasket so i got the thermostat gasket from a 93 Sentra SE-R...clearly its not doing the job as coolant is dripping out. maybe it just needs tightened.

RWD SR20s doenst have a thermostat gasket. You just high temp RTV to seal it. My guess is you didnt bleed it enough. Raise the front of the car, run it with the rad cap off, turn your heater to max, massage the upper radiator hose until you stop seeing any bubbles from the rad cap.

Also, fuck the stock water temp gauge. Dont pay attention to that POS since its worth less. By the time it shows that you're overheating, its usually too late and the head could already be warped. Buy yourself an actual gauge.

massage the hose? what does that mean?

That means to squeeze it.

Attach a radiator funnel and don't squeeze too hard that it all gushes out but enough to burp the system.

even the dirty thought in your head would have been able to explain what that means
