Alright, I'm stuck on this one. I currently have an 89 s13 coupe with every option. It has an automatic transmission. It's been running pretty rough since I've owned it. I replaced a lot of things and did all general maintenance, cleaned the injectors, all that stuff. Today, I was trying to get to the bottom of it running and idling terribly. I cleaned the MAF and was trying to adjust the tps. I also was fixing a gauge cluster issue with the lights flickering, so I was under the dash and in the cluster as well.
I finally discovered the temp sensor connector was corroded horribly. I cleaned it up and now the engine is running smooth as butter.
However, on my way out of my neighborhood, it started getting really sluggish, like it didn't want to shift. It seems to be stuck in a higher gear and won't let it put power to the wheels. I checked the tranny fluid and the level is fine. It seemed to get worse the longer I drove it, and I could feel it downshifting hard as I would slow down. It will just randomly shift gears, and it was making strange noises like whining sometimes, but not constantly.
Any suggestions? This is a very strange and unfamiliar issue for me. Thanks in advance!
