ok, so i have 90 240sx kae that is overheating not rapidly but it takes like 20 mins after i start driving. It doesnt reach the Hot area but above average.

When i first got the car it wasnt doin so, only when i turned the A/C on, so i flushed the cooling system. It was just filthy dirty, so refilled it. it was good for a like 2 weeks.

It started to heat up again. and now its idle at 1100-1200 rpm. so I flushed it again, this time i used vinegar to clean the engine cooling system. and it worked. and temp was normal... (right below the middle line in the temp gauge) and idle was at 750rpm for ANOTHER 2 week or so.

so now im wondering, if it could be a thermostat some what close shut, and making the car idle at 1100rpm. or could it be a leak in the head gasket? but it doesnt overheat where it reaches top of the heat.

well zilvia, let me know what you think. Thanks.

Did you bleed the system?

I went through this situation also and it could be several things. When you first open your hood after realizing it's starting to overheat that it's really warm that it is overheating? The temp sensor for the gauge is really know for going bad on our cars. If it is overheating, I would suggest looking at the radiator as probably some areas are probably clogged. Now this is just based on what you described. GL.

Where is the temperature line exactly? Because mine stays directly on the middle line, and that is not overheating. However anything over that is overheating.

I'd replace the thermostat just because it's a cheap part and since it's an old car they should always be double checked anyway. Then like previously posted, make sure you bleed the system correctly get all those air bubbles out.

yes i did.

yea first time i drained it was dirty, and i was thinking also that the radiator might be clogged in certain areas of the system.

well when i got it it was right in the middle. everytime i flushed the system it was in the middle, but after the week or so it would climb right to the line above the middle or higher.

and yes the thermostat didnt do much. still the same.

UPDATE: OK, so during last weekend i drained the coolent once again. and more dirty $hit came out. looked like watered clay. wish i took pics. But i guess vinegar was still in the system and really cleaned out.

Now its running great. I do believe that the Radiator was possibly clogged and now its flowing. Now temp gauge is below the middle line, and when A/C on it doesnt over heat.

Thanks for all the Help & Advice!

The radiator was probably clogged at some areas. Glad everything turned out well.
