My engine just went out on my Z and I'm having it rebuilt. I don't even want to guess how much that will be. Anyways, I was wondering if a rebuild will restore all the power that I've lost over the years?

Also should I expect the engine to go another 200K miles after the rebuild or is it going to be less reliable?

well an engine rebuild if they repalce the block and the heads and valves and pistons should restore compression (i.e. back to stock hp)

A typical rebuild is new bearings, rings, maybe valves, valve sprigs. . basically go through and see what needs to be replaced. Price is 90% labor 'cause it's a long way to the middle of that engine

get it balanced and bluprinted while it's already all taken apart, that will add some hp and it will last forever

I'm not sure exactly what happend to it. I had that annoying ticking for awhile and it's been smoking for along time(burning oil). The other day it just started banging, like someone was ounding on the inside of the engine with  a hammer. I think I broke a valve or something because someone said if was a rod, the engine would've siezed.

BTW, last time I did the drags in it, I ran a 16.84 or something like that and as far as I know that isn't too good for an NA Z32, I think it should be around low 15's. Anyway, I'm hoping that I'll get power back that I never had before.

just go to stillen, they sell rebuilt engines for 4,600 both n/a and tt

That would be more than I'd have to pay for a rebuild, not to mention shipping and tax and installation and all of that, so I think I'd be better off with the engine I've got.

Sorry, i've been out of the forum for a while and bringin this post back up.  i just had my motor rebuilt for a TT, and man, i jus gotta say that things just stack up.  i had the motor fully built w/ new heads and internals, it wouldve been a lot cheaper if i just went the stock route.  the car had it's first start today since 6 months ago.  i would say that a fresh rebuild to stock would come up to 4k if you took your time and looked for the best deals.  i had about 6k done to mine, i jus hope that it was worth it.   If it helps, there's a guy down in FL that sells stock motors w/ low milages, unless you really want to get a fresh and blueprinted block, and heads...my old block is getting machined soon as well as my stock heads....contact sound performance in IL and tell them that Jerome (me) told you about it.
