(With the SR, of course)
I've been reading Tsuchiya's FR techniques book, and in the last section he rates all the FR cars based on his own personal criteria-e.g. handling, price, upgradeability, practicality..(GTR included, because I guess it's RWD most times).
Here's a rundown:
Supra-90%
Soarer (SC400)-85%
Toyota MarkII Tourer V-98%
180SX-85%
Skyline GTS-80%
Skyline GTR-90%
Z32-85%
Miata-90%
RX-7-85%
Legacy RS-85%
Cappucino-85%
Beemer 318is-85%
Porsche 911-90%
Ferrari F355-95%
NSX-R-98%
(drumroll..)
and the S14 gets-95%
On par with the F355, from this guy. Not bad from a professional driver..
He says, of the Siliva:
"The perfect car for learning FR"
"Easily acquirable, with a wide powerband, it's among the easiest to learn throttle control with (the Silvia)"
The minuses come with a slightly weak chassis/bushings and the S14's slightly bigger-than-necessary size.

It's really a good read..but there is no English translation. I only discovered it at the back of some used Japanese bookstore..I had no idea he actually wrote books. Apparently Red Badge publishes a whole bunch of driving techniques book. Tsuchiya even wrote a secret to drifting book, also published by Red Badge. I also picked up a "Hashiriya Hero ni Naru Hon" (Becoming a Hashiriya Hero). Man..talk about a difference in cultures.

S14 the drift car? Really? Aaron, please enlighten me.
My kouki doesnt seem all that stiff if at all. A LOT of body roll, man I need sway-bars so bad!

your missing a big point
the chassis is stiff
build around that. suspension, sways.etc
you got a stiff chassis already..;)

Oh yeah, duh. Chassis does not equal suspension....:bash:....i'm such an idiot. Sorry about that man.
I think it might be the sleep depravation. I'm comin up on 30 hours and it's starting to take its toll...

from what i've been told, the zenki s14 was made with weight saving holes in the chasis body, while the kouki s14 lack these. The difference is, zenki s14s are lighter, kouki s14s have a stiffer chasis.IRC the weight difference was around 100lbs.
there is probably other things done to it too but none that i'm aware of.

Cool, glad I got a base model 97 then! Stiffer chassis and still the same weight as a zenki SE, best of both worlds!

stock hachis are the SUCK
i drove a few..WOW are they pure crap
see the beauty of a hiach is, sucks for handling but if you can do it RIGHt, its vrey rewarded
someone who can drive excellent in a hachi is more likely a great driver all around. every hachi owern i speak with tells me that they suck but they multiply your error by A LOT. so you really see where you suck. so over time you improve.
stock: slow, handle like crap
modified and w/ a great driver: can be an awesome car
hachi i drove..wow, what a disappointment (100%) stock.
now built hachis (ridden in) with a great driver..CRAZY

funny thing is every car he listed is only covers the last ten years or so of production. There are some cars from the 70's and 80's that are quite competitive and right up there with the cars he listed. People , this is one professionals opinion. I would not take it as gospel in the least. IMHO:D
