An automaker will consider variations on the theme of a particular model, and the rabid media will occasionally pick up a snippet of that chatter and blow it way out of proportion. We can't say whether rumors of a two-door M coupe are reality or just spitballing, though many would argue that such a model is a necessity for success.

A two-door M could be offered in both V6 M37 form, and with a V8 as the M56. InsideLine has a rendering that shows a pretty spiffy premium coupe with a unique roof pillar treatment. It's a nice rendering, but we can posit that the production version won't be wearing a piece of C-pillar finery to make a '61 Valiant jealous.

I'm now convinced that Nissan is not interested in making a new 240. :(

On the plus side a striped out Nissan version with a V8 would be a bonafide muscle car.

On the plus side a striped out Nissan version with a V8 would be a bonafide muscle car.

The problem is how many people would actually buy/afford it. M56s can go over $60k with all the trimmings, and going by how Nissan priced the G series, the coupe will cost more than the sedan.

For over $60k, you have better options out there. I'd rather get an M3, IS-F, or for a bit more, a GTR. Or I can say fuck coupes and go 4 door with a badass Mercedes C63 sedan. 457hp 443ft/lbs cant go fucking wrong. Buddy of mine who owns an LS'd FD drove a C63 loaner after his wife's mercedes went in for some work swears that shit was more fun to drive than his car. He took that shit to the track and drifted/auto-x'd the fuck out of it. Now he's hoping his wife would get a promotion so he can get one...:bigok:

PS: Remember...M3 drivers have no friends... LoL!!! :ddog:

That is why I said stripped out Nissan. $30k for Nissan muscle ain't bad.

It's not exactly what I would want but it is a step in the direction of what I think Nissan should be.

but if they did that then the 370z would be pointless-but yeah, a v8 nissan for around 30k would be nice.

It would be a bigger car than the Z. It's like a pony car vs a muscle car.

EDIT:
An M56 coupe could make a great touring car.

Stupid and pointless of nissan really... If they REALLY feel the need for this how about making this as a g56 option package? Use the G that is already there and is selling well. No need to reinvent a whole new M56 coupe that will take away some g37 folks and maybe a few cheap gtr people. I hope mazda does a 2.3L mazda rx-9 rwd turbo.

The M coupe would be a larger car than a G. Enough so that they wont compete much with each other.

I fail to see what that has to do with an M56 coupe.

lol nissan's willing to make a new v8 coupe but they won't bother with an affordable 4-banger turbo one. oh well

Not the same market. Maybe the cost vs profit is there for this segment.

yeah probably...hey maybe in decade you'll see g coupes with the m56 engine in it :)

I think you will see Gs with LSs in them.

I like it, I think it looks good and all that power on a coupe would be nice. But it would weigh a shit ton

The current M56 sedan weighs in around 4000 pounds. I think they could shed a good amount of weight in changing it to a coupe.
