Did a search and I wasn't able to find the answer. Someone mentioned that in order to make your KA tranny fit, you must swap in the SR bell housing. So is that all I need to make my KA tranny to mate onto the SR motor? This is a S13 redtop btw. The reason why I ask is because I might buy a complete swap but the seller said the tranny is "stuck in 1st gear" or something like that. So I was wondering if I'd be able to use my KA tranny. If all else fails, are SR trannys easy to find?

bottom line:
u can spend a TON of cash and make the KA assembly fit into an SR bell, but why? it'd cost 3x as much as getting a new tranny

REALISTIC bottom line:
just get a SR tranny, they're not that hard to come by, talk to the usual places where you get reputable SR's from and you'll have no probs.

Ah ok...See I thought it was just a bolt on process, didn't know it was costly or anything. I thought just swap in SR bell housing onto KA tranny and DONE. Well I guess I'll check the usual places for trannies... how much do they run for, ~$300?

Did you buy an SR without the tranny?

If have not purchased the SR yet, best to go with a front clip. You get it all.

I did know a guy that bought a front drive SR but had a hell of a time finding a tranny. Reason? But them as a unit, engine and tranny.

Well I can pick this motor up (complete swap) for $1300. If I just need the tranny, let's say $500 shipped, that's $1800 total. Still saves money.. I will have a list of what is actually a COMPLETE SWAP and if it's missing anything then I won't buy it.

just make sure you have everything, this means you'll be missing most your hoses and random nuts/bolts/brackets/etc. You really do get what you pay for when getting an SR, the best advice I could give ANYONE is don't go cheap. Get a clip if you possibly can, I'd only advice getting a motorset if this ISN'T your first time through the SR swap process.

Well I plan replacing all hoses and belts anyway with the Heavy Trottle EZ Install kit so that's not a big deal. As long as it has all the essential pars such as MAF, ignitor chip and such right?

If you can find a motorset with a complete harness+ecu then that's the way to go. You could buy a better front-mount intercooler, better hotpipe, and better downpipe and still have more than a couple hundred left in your pocket.

that's exactly my point james...why not save some money while I'm at it right..
