I know this has been beaten to death but I searched and cant find my answer. My question is about my timing chain rattle on my 91 sx hatch with a 95 ka.... If i remove the top guides would there still be a risk that the chain can break, or should I just head down to autozone and waste a fortune getting a new kit. If there is no risk than I would just remove the guides, but im worried it can break so i need some advice. Thanks

There is no issue with removing the top timing chain guide. You can remove it without worries.

Took 3 off already. 2 are from my engine and 1 on a friends engine and been running fine for a year or so.

two different problems for same rattle symptom
loose chain guide (often completely or partially unbolted) -> you can remove it no problem
slack chain (usually a bad tensioner) -> you can remove the guides but you still have to fix the slack chain. if freeing/replacing tensioner won't fix slack chain, then consider full timing chain job.
