I just had the same thing happen. My thread is only a week and a half old. This is the first time I've not been able to close one of my threads.

Unfortunately, there was a user or more who were abusing their ability to lock threads.

I warned everybody ages ago that if that ability was abused again, I'd take it away from everyone.

No big deal I guess, just makes it a little more difficult when I have a FS thread that has reached the bump limit and I have to start a new. In the past I would just lock the old one and start the new one, now I'll just have to PM a Mod.

ya it kinda sucks. I would lock a for sale thread when the item was sold. now no more. It also was a way to keep noob idiots from bumping old for sale threads.

kevin perhaps you could have fixed it rather than tossing the whole thing.

I'm guessing there's no provisions to only allow a portion of a usergroup the ability to lock the threads-probably all or nothing. I agree with you though, I can just see me getting a pm, or a thread bumped, about a part for sale from 3 yrs ago, and to top it off, I'll still get lowballed!!!!!

Why not just punish the people that are overusing the ability instead of taking it away from everyone?

Because that isn't the way Rules/Laws work, anywhere.

And the LAWS put in place against murderers are there because the Majority of the People the law affects were planning to commit murder before the law was put in place?

So one would first have to commit the crime, no?

Indeed, and the crime HAS been committed, numerous times.

Therefore the Rule has now been put into affect that Premium members may not lock/unlock their own Threads.

So you're saying that everyone wanted to murder everyone, and that's why the laws were made?

I think what we have is the "We might have gone too far, but we can't go back now (cause we don't want to admit we were wrong) thing. I understand if you guys got tired of having to do your duties, I really do.

Therefore the Rule has now been put into affect that Premium members may not lock/unlock their own Threads.

Don't forget to edit that out of the list of perks we Premium members pay for. Unless it's a temp rule.

You seem to have completely missed what I said.

Good job. Also, referring to it as "Marine Corps Treatment", doesn't really make sense. If case you haven't noticed, I'm not an Admin. In case you're having problems grasping that fact... only Admins can make changes like this.

Bottom line: Members have ABUSING their ability to edit and delete their posts, as well as close their own Threads. Because it has been abused, the ability to do so has been removed. We understand this may seem inconvenient to you, but that's what happens when a convenience is removed.

we lost the rep system, we all saw why...pretty much the whole forum was going ape shit and doing stupid shit with it...fine i can and have lived with that...

we loose closing our own threads- problems with this will keep happening...mods/admins do not close every thread that is junk, let alone old as dirt...i can already see half a dozen old threads of my own that are F/S or WTB that im going to get PM'd about if i need or have this or that...partially my fault for not closing, understood, but 1 Pm is fine, usually i would close it right after delete all info inside and just post "CLOSED" or "Sold" or somethting along those lines...now i cant...

and now we cant edit post...CMON!, thats a common BASIC function on all forums!!!...
-what about those that make threads on DIY, and need to edit info?

-those who have items for sale that want to add to there original post more items instead of using up there only bumps?

-why punish those who have been following the rules?

Hell, make it a Premie perk atleast!, at the very least!...it might even encourage a bunch of cheap asses to drop 10 bucks on a forum they used to abuse...

i say punish the wrong do'ers, not the whole community...its not fair, I get it...its repetetive and annoying for mods/admins to keep going back and pinking/locking shit threads and stupid people...

we've already taken steps to keep those who only wish to abuse the FS section, that was a step in the right direction, it will show true character on whether they actually man up and stick around for the time needed, or move on and we avoid getting BS and scammed...that i can agree with...

but the rest...i cant...i really hope it gets resolved...if i cant lock my own threads, fine, mods can go ahead and take that over, if anything itll be another tideaous task for them to attend to...but i would like to keep the editing option...for atleast certain section of the forum atleast...

Darn it.

I really liked being able to close my own threads, I guess it also makes more work for mods though since they will be getting pm's to close threads that otherwise would have been closed by the OP.

Editing functions should only be removed for the Marketplace, as I am to understand it.

If this is not the case, then please inform the Admins.

If you'd care to explain to me what i missed id appreciate it.

I understand it wasn't your decision to do what was done, I made that comment because I knew at least you'd be able to relate. Do can relate, right?the majority go about doing nothing wrong, then a few come along and fuck it up ad everyone pays? Out of 77xxx members, how many people were actually abusing whatever they were abusing? Can i count the number on one hand? Two? Fingers AND toes? You know whats different about this an MC treatment is most of the time you knew who it was that fucked shit up.

Back to work for me. Ty for your time.

Quoted for truth

You know whats different about this an MC treatment is most of the time you knew who it was that fucked shit up.

At least they tell you guys. During the majority of my Air Force experience we get mass punishment for people doing dumb shit, but in the end they are too afraid to tell you who fucked up.

Wait...that sounds a lot like this situation, so maybe we can call it "Air Force Treatment" instead?

Yeah I can't even edit my for sale thread anymore. I sold some more stuff and I want to erase them because they are no longer for sale. This is waaaay lame. I see your side of it, people abuse it and it gets taken away (same thing happened with the rep system). But this, in my opinion is a bit too much. Thats one reason why I loved being a premie, because I could do that (I know we still can, just not in the marketplace). But thats the thing, the marketplace is a huge community here on Zilvia. Everytime I am on Zilvia there is 400+ people viewing the marketplace.

Plus, I don't want people thinking "Hay, he sold me those cams why are they still up for sale?". This bugs me not being able to do pretty much ANYTHING to my FS thread. Should I PM a mod to edit it, what I want to edit, and close it when necessary?

I like to be able to fix problems I have for myself.

The Rules are the Rules .... and Until this is lifted( or if it is ever lifted ), this is the way it will be ..

No sence in debating the subject ....

And for FYI is wasn't just GenPop that was doing this ... MIB's were doing it too .. So Giving it the argumement that should be giving to Premies Only is the Reason WHY ya'll don't have the power to edit or lock ..

Just deal with it for now... We will see what happens in the future ..

What confusion is there?

1. I told premium members AGES ago that if they were found abusing the privilege, it would be removed.

2. The privilege was abused.

3. The privilege was removed.

I didn't change ANY editing permissions, only the ability of premium members to close/open their threads in the marketplace.

Also, to anyone griping about 'removing things from the list of shit we pay for' or other statements to that effect, how many times have we busted our asses to ADD new features and privileges? More times than we've had to remove things, that's for damned sure.

I dunno, would it be more fair for us to set a rule wherein you break ANY rule you lose your premium membership, regardless of how long it's paid for? That way I could restore the previously removed privileges (two, as I recall), and anyone found abusing them would lose their membership.

I realize I'm being caustic, but getting second-guessed by users (who apparently take things personally) when I'm making an effort to keep this forum moving forward good and working well seems a little, oh I dunno... Ungrateful? Unjustified? Irritating?
Take your pick.
