I know this had been discussed a fair bit, but i searched and didnt find anything.. Im looking to buy some r32 brakes on yahoo japan, and i came accross these, is there anyway to tell if there alum. or iron? or are all r32s all aluminum? i noticed some have the cooling fins, and some dont, as well as some say sumitoto, does that matter?

is there even an advantage to having aluminum ones? other than them being lighter? doesnt iron dissipate heat better??

Item 1 is bigger that item 2 (it uses bigger rotor, but heard the pad are same size).

And stop caring about iron/alum. You heard of a 96 Z32 slower than a 91 because of the iron calipers?

eh, well, im planning on getting an e30 over the summer, and im going to redrill the hubs and probably throw on some z32 rotors and some z32 calipers or r32 calipers.. yes i know ill have to make custom caliper adaptors, ive got that figured out, i know autocad like the back of my hand, blah blah blah... just gotta figure out the brake lines...

anyways, i just wanted alum. for the bling factor i suppose.. but i mean if i could just get tips on how to tell whats alum and whats iron id rather just get aluminum..

First calipers are R33 GTST calipers.
Second ones are R32/Z32.
Both pair are aluminum but the R33's use a bigger rotor like chituntang said.
296mm vs the R32/Z32 280mm.
And the pads are the same as Z32's.

thanks, is there any distinct way to tell? i think ill just go for the 2nd ones. heres the link

anyways, as far as the larger rotor problem im going to get the slightly smaller z32 rotors when i draw up the adaptors on CAD, since i cant seem to find the r32 calipers, unless if i just buy em on yahoo japan

item 1 is R32 GTR Sumitumo Calipers... I have these... they use a much larger Rotor , but the caliper is Aluminum and uses the Z32 Pads.... supposedly they dissipate heat faster and are about a 10% increase over the aluminum Z32.

These are great for a starting upgrade.
Be sure to get the correct rotors size... 295x 32mm
You will not need to modify anything other than Z32 front brake lines to run these on an S13 or S14.

enjoy...

The first calipers can be used with 97-01 Q45 rotors.
They are the right diameter(296mm) but are 2mm thinner(28mm thick)
They are cheap and easy to get at any auto parts store.
I got mine from Autozone for $35 each.

Ah no, First Calipers are R32 GTR Calipers. I know I ran them and they use a 32mm rotor. The seconds are Z32 Calipers.

an R33 GTST Caliper can use the Q45 rotors because they are 30mm. stock so you can run a slightly thinner rotor.

From the 300zx brake swap page (google it), you cannot visually notice the difference between 26/30mm caliper. You can only do it by measure or have both 26 and 30mm caliper together to tell the difference.

But why do it on Japan Yahoo when the ones you wanted are widely available in the US?
