Thanks to all of the 240SX owners and enthusiasts that have commented on our Facebook brand page regarding the return of the 240SX. Your passion for the 240SX and the brand is outstanding!
As you can imagine, the decision to bring (or not to bring) a vehicle to market doesn’t happen overnight. Many factors come into play when considering such a proposition. We appreciate your diligence and persistence, and hear you loud and clear. Thanks again for your feedback! We’ve shared your feedback with our development team.

I took some time and actually gave some specifications to them that would make a "240SX/180SX/Silvia" work in today's market.
Hopefully they take notice.

well nissan already has 2 big competitors to fight...toyota/subaru and hyundai
the genesis is receiving nothing but awesome press...i read some reviews on the car (as i was thinking about getting one) on edmunds.com and every person who owns the car LOVES it...i personally took a look at one at redline time attack...SUPER cars for the price...the ONLY big thing that bothered me was that the block internals are weak and will grenade around 400whp (SR and 4G are still the 2 most awesome turbo 4 pots EVER!!!)
but yah...the genesis is getting the attention it deserves...the toyobaru is going to EXPLODE (expect to see it at like EVERY booth at SEMA the year it arrives)...and nissan still does nothing...its sad =(

maybe nissan is stepping aside to give toyota its time since the whole brake pedal issue...also toyota hasnt produced a sports car is forever but the Z has been out since early 2000's with no other comptetors.

The problem is, even if we go on there and complain about not having a 240 replacement, and they finally decide to make one, none of our poor asses will be able/willing to afford it anyways.

Unfortunately this is probably the truth behind a big majority, but I do know that if they did come out with one; it would probably be the first car I'd ever make payments on.
I still completely support the move to raise awareness in the lack of a budget RWD car that looks good from the Nissan family

well do realize that were not the ONLY country that wants one...remember how many places the S chassis was sold in
also remember too...its not just US that will be buying them...more and more rich teenage kids get their drivers license everyday...and with the current economy...people are avoiding sportscars simply because they are so goddamn expensive...who wants to spend 35-45 grand on an ENTRY level sports car??? not me...thats for damn sure...id rather work myself like crazy to afford a 20k sports car
im going to keep requesting this...guys...if you post on 240 forums...please post a link to this thread or repost my original post in this topic...i really wanna show nissan that were serious and that we NEED to be heard

were exactly would you like us to post this? on there wall? im down for tryin to help but the last nissan rep i talked to dident know what i was talking about and the one before that told me i was an idiot for trying because they probably wont even consider it because it would be competeing with the Z sales.

^ That's what sucks, that it would compete with Z sales. If we actually could convince them to make a new S-chassis, it wouldn't be for a few years, and they would pretty much need to STOP MAKING NEW Z'S. I really don't see this happening, but I'd for sure be down to finance for a new S-chassis, in the 18k-25k range, and I'm not someone who likes to make payments, ON ANYTHING!!!!! I'm sure it would be a great success for Nissan, but it would have to wait until Z sales are pretty much dead, you know what I mean?
93nismo
05-08-2010, 02:41 PM
i think in a small way it would effect Z sales. but in all reality some people hate 240s and love Z's and some people are the exact opposite. i personaly love both but i dont think id be willing to pay for a new Z. i dont even think id pay for a used 350. im not to fond of the genesis but in a few years when i have the money to spend im sure ill be in the market for something like this. i see were nissan is comeing from but at the same time i dont.
EDIT: also, think about it this way. in the ammount of time it would take for this to really happen everybody thats broke and has an s chassis and really cares about it will probably have a bit more money to spend on a car. and if there still into cars such as the 240sx they may be potential buyers. i feel like nissan is think in the hear and now instead of the future when all of this would really happen

What is wrong with the Genesis Coupe?
The fact is, this segment is dead or heavily pre-occupied.
Nissan would have a hard time coming up with a new chassis that would weight less then 3,000lbs, meet modern safety expectations, creature comforts and still price it for less then the 370Z.
After all, the 370z is able to share the weight of it's cost with the G37 and other Nissan models, a "240SX" would need a new chassis and even an engine as well as Nissan is not packing a turbo 4 currently.
Also, look at what it has to deal with, 300hp V6 Mustangs and Camaros which are both under 25k, and the S197 chassis is dead solid.
I've argued before the 350Z is basically both the 300ZX AND S15's replace. They cut out the extravagant and costly twin-turbo Z, while also cutting out the low-level Non-Turbo Silvia.
I would rather see Nissan release a 42,000 - 54,000 370Z complete with Factor Twin-Turbos, rather then bringing out a "Bargain" car that will not do well and only serve to cannibalize Z sales, rather then pulling sales for the Juggernaut known as the Mustang V6.
Also, with 350Zs in the 9-14k range now... why waste your time on a car that will be roughly equivalent to a Genesis Coupe?

no new chassis is needed...they can just utilize the current gen FM chassis...remove all the luxury bits and what not that the Z and G use
this topic has been covered extensively in the 2010 silvia thread on here...ive had confirmation from various sources at nissans including someone who is at the top of the food chain that a new SX was in development and it was going to see reality....but due to the economy the project was put on hold
im doing this because i want nissan to see that the S chassis crowd is sick of being ignored and were tired of the getting the shaft while the Z and GTR crowd get a new car every few years...and those cars are always well out of the "affordability" range...im sorry...i want a new car thats rwd, 4 cyl and turbo...that is built by nissan and that has a nice 20-25k price tag...i dont like the 370z (im not a big Z fan period actually), i dont like the GTR (WAY too much money and WAY too much technology) and i cant stand the new G37 coupe (nissan messed up a good thing)

Nissan does not care about Crowds, Fans or Communities. They care about sales, and most 240 owners do not have the money to buy and mod brand new cars. The "Z" has a much stronger catche with the average American consumer then the SX/Silvia ever did/will. This is also why the GXX was chosen instead of "Skyline". What few Americans know of Skylines, they expect to be "2NR" cars, not the JDM 3-series. Even the owners that dump 30k into a 240 are either the very few super hard core fans, or they can't afford to dump 30k into a 30k car like a Supra or Z.
The average car in the US sells for $28,000. That means the 370Z is just above average making it affordable. The GT-R was never affordable and has been about technology and geometry since the late 80's.
I use the Genesis Coupe as an example again seeing many magazines and fans hailed it a "new 240sx". It's $23,000, has 215hp and has been making good numbers.
However, how many people can shell out $450 a month, ditch the warranty and mod the thing like they do with the 240? What about actually drifting/tracking it? If I wreck my 240, a shell is just $1,000 a way, wreck my GC... and well I'm really screwed.
Also, why would I want to spend 25k on a car that weights 800lbs more and has the same power out put of a typical ~$5k SR 240?
You also said "remove luxury items". What luxury items does a 370Z really have at base trim? How are you going to "cut cost" as I can't see how a brand-new, unique turbo four will be cheaper then a common corporate V6, your can't save on the transmission, unless you design a new one, which adds development costs... so forth.
This would also compete against the Altima Coupe which fills the low 20k range for sporty coupe.
The Mustang is a great example of how this segment works. While enthusiasts are all V8 or nothing, the V6 makes for the bread-and-butter out selling the V8 something like 8 to 1. Everybody loves Mustangs, they look great are fun and sporty (even more so when compared to Corollas and Impalas) and have a strong Romantic Iconic feel to them that everyone can relate to.
As a result, Moms, Girlfriends, high-school boys, old men and everyone one in between that either does not care about performance, or can't afford to buy, fuel or insure a V8 runs out and grabs one, off setting all the costs of development and allowing us to get get Terminator Cobras, Shelby's and nasty 400hp 5.0 Coyote engines.
You need to be able to do that with a "new SX" and I don't see it happening, you'll get 3,000, MAYBE 5k hardcore fans to buy it and that is it, many of which would have bought a more profitable Z. Compare that to the 100,000 Mustangs sold each year.
As for your dislike of the 370Z, GT-R and G37 styling, the same guys that styled those will make the new 240, and they will make it so it resembles them and fits in the product line up, you will not be seeing pop-up head lights either.

well im not intending for this thread to turn into a pissing match...but i really have no need to combat your above statements as everything and anything anyone can come up with in this thread has been covered in the below...
http://zilvia.net/f/off-topic-chat/127041-2011-240-other-future-rwd-coupe-thread.html
i can flat out tell you that i know for a FACT that a new SX was in development...i wont tell you my source (a few of the older members on this forum know who it is...i dont make it public for safety of this persons job position...sorry) but i will assure you that nissan saw the SX replacement as something viable for a number of years...however...with recent economical developments in our society...as well as everything going "green", nissan has lost sight of the SX
letting nissan see and hear from us is a good thing...you may not think it is and you may have your own opinion on the market...but i can tell you flat out that nissan would move ALOT more than 5000 units...dont speak for an entire generation now that is almost hitting its 30s and has the money to EASILY buy one of these cars...though they COULD purchase a Z or G...i know there are people out there who (like myself) WOULDNT WANT ONE IF AN SX WAS AVAILBLE
but again...im not getting into a pissing match cause i really could care less ne more...this thread was created to let people know they can voice their opinion and actually have it be HEARD by nissan corporate for the first time...nissan does pay attention to its facebook and does voice replies...im glad were able to stand up to nissan and say "hey, listen to us"...now if you want to try to dissuade people from at least VOICING their opinion on wanting a new SX, then please do it elsewhere...but if you would like to join in this small "movement", then please head over to nissans page and request they bring the car back
thanks

Please put down the stupid. The 2011 Mustangs recieved new engines. The 5.0, DOHC V8 now puts down 400hp, chirps third and it's now sure footed enough to pull M3 G's and slalom numbers.
The V6 has a 300hp DI V6 and is rummored to recieve an Ecoboost Twinturbo SVT varient. The V6 out performs the 350Z DE in all performance tests.
The Mustang also weights 500lbs less then the Camaro and Challenger, it weights 2-300lbs less then the GC, M3 and G37.
The Silvia IS the Japanese Mustang/Camaro.
