I'm in a process of replacing the HG and the timing belt because my car overheated and oil and coolant is mixing. I'm probably going to be posting pictures here and ask questions here and there hoping you guys can guide me through.
First thing I'm a little confused is when I'm removing the timing belt, I know that I have to set the crank pulley on TDC and the cam timing marks. On the fsm it says that if the cam gears are not on the mark when the crank pulley is already set on TDC then turn the crank pulley 360 degrees. But my crank pulley is like one inch away from being TDC and the cam gears (both intake and exhaust) are not even close to the mark. Intake is at like 11 o clock and the exhaust is at 4. I don't see how turning the crank pulley 360 degrees would make the cam gears set properly on the mark.
Should I just take off the belt and set everything on the mark by hand?
Sorry this is for a neo rb25

NOOOO
The chain, and each of the gears have lengths wshich are not divisible by each other.
This means you have to keep cranking by hand until the marks line up in the right spots on the cams/camgears, simultaenously, while the CRANK is at TDC.
You will notice that each time you get back to TDC, the marks will shift in a certain direction.
THEY PROBABLY will shift from being on one side of the mark and then to the other side of the mark WITHOUT lining up.....this is OK.
It just means you need to keep cranking....eventually they will line up correctly.

so i got the head off and the cams i have a neo and i heard the shims were under the buckets just like the rb26 because it has a solid lifter is that true? and i have the cut outs on my cams to access the headstuds w/o taking the cams off just like the tomei cams. i was wondering if i actually do have tomei or not w/o any imprint of tomei sign on the cams.
