View Full Version : Firewall hole plugs - who needs them?

Since I insist on not leaving a project without completion, I've decided to get some laser cut outs for my S14's firewall holes. I've submitted a print and when quantity came up, I thought I might poll the Zilvia community before ordering. At the moment, I'm getting 5 done. These would need to be tack welded into place but will be almost a press fit. The five plugs would be:
2 for heater core inlet/outlet (same size)
2 for A/C inlet/outlet
and one oval plug for the little drain grommet by the passenger's feet.

Just so we're clear, these would be out of 16GA CRS and they will be nothing more than little circles and one oval.
Price would be $15 shipped for one set of 5 plugs. This is not a FS thread. I will create one, if the demand seems sufficient.

I'd be down for this if I wasn't A/C heater equipped. But having no A/C in california is ridiculous.

Thanks! Love your car/build btw... I would think there would be a lot of guys out there looking for this solution. Its looking like I have a minimum price quote, so I might just get 5 sets and periodically throw these up. come on guys this is the way to plug it right...

well i know some s13 came with no AC, thus having 2 rubber plugs for the holes...the rest would be needed to be fabbed...
since i done have ac and lack the skill to weld, i will use the plugs i got, and keep heater for cold night events...:wiggle:

it doesn't take much skill to pop a tack weld on something... just sayin...

Good work! Although I can't say I'd ever want to rid of my defroster, I love seeing S chassis guys 'getting it done' by being hands on. Best of luck!

I really don't see the point of laser cutting these pieces. 20 minutes with a shear and sander and you have your plugs....

these would be such a good idea ... in rubber plugs
i understand how easy it is to weld in....once prepped
grinding off paint, holding it up, make it look clean with the welder, paint it afterwards... plus if your doing all that you could make these your self for free..
no offense to any one but throwing a rubber plug in there is some thing anyone could do in a matter of seconds

Yeah, but it doesnt look as clean, you can go to a hardware store and get some rubber plugs, i would totally do this if i didnt have a heater/ac in my sr swaped car, great idea man, definatly do it!!!

I could try and find rubber plugs but rubber doesn't stop fire and I have absolutely no interest in going back to an A/C or heater system. I'm not recommending that everyone get these but if you're building a purpose built car, and could use a perfect fitting block off for your S14, then this would be your ticket.
Since I have a minimum purchase amount, I'll get 6 sets made and throw them up in the FS section.

I wonder if the hole sizes are the same for S13. If they are, I'll be interested in them.

Matt, just ask someone with a bare shell to measure. I think there might be a couple for sale right now too.

just to conclude this thread, I got 10 sets made so I'm just going to throw them up in the FS area and maybe someone will need some.
I tell you one thing, when these are in, its going to look like it didn't come from the factory with the A/C or heater options. +1 for OEM looks!
