Don't give your plates to anyone ever. Take the plates so they have to register the car to drive it. Problem solved.

Did you do it online?

Online Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability (http://dmv.ca.gov/online/nrl/welcome.htm)

Hopefully you find him... if worse comes to worse, pay the tickets?

That's the reason I rather go and waste a couple of hours at a DMV office, to ensure shit gets taken care of.
Sucks man.

DMV is really behind.
And the govinators budget cuts have really fucked em over.

Don't keep your plates, just send that shit in.
Im not even sure keeping plates is 100% legal.

You are transfering a tittle when you sell.

If a 240 isnt registered, or i gotta do it, im not gonna buy it.
That seems fishy to me.

Talk to the DMV or the courts that are gonna suspend your license.
Let them know what happened and schedule a court date to tell a judge.
They will prolly remove your tickets (his tickets) and the you will owe $50 for an abstract so you can get your license back.

Most likely, the car isnt registered to him.

You could actually just go and take it back if you wanted, lol.

The car is registered to the OP's name still thats the problem. Having to register a car is not fishy at all. Its the flake ass BUYER that never put the car in his name.

OP i'm pretty sure you wont get your license suspended for parking tickets. Worst case man just pay them but still track down the buyer so it doesnt happen again. Go to DMV with him and make him put the car in his name or take the car back cuz legally on paper you are still the owner.

On the back of the ticket you can fill in the information.

Why didn't you do it right after you sold your vehicle?

I sold something and the ass hat got a ticket that morning I sold it.

Once the ticket came to my house, I put the new owners info in and sent it in. Never had to pay.

All of the above is true, they do not suspend drivers licenses for parking tickets. They do suspend registration on the car though. If that happens and Cali_love gets pulled over two things will possibly happen.
A: they will write a ticket for suspended registration
B: depending on what ever else they pulled him for the car could get impounded.

Did you fill out a sales contract?

Any documentation you have that can prove you sold the vehicle should be enough to show the courts. And you should be released from any liability. When ever dealing with the DMV double check everything. I recently had the same problem with the DMV not accepting the release of liability, who knows why..

so to sum it up for you. Find something in writing that shows you sold the vehicle. then Report to your local court ticket window show them you sold it. And you should be off the hook. Definitely don't wait around and see if they contact you, etc. Handle it..

^ I believe he is reffering to a "Bill of Sale". You always do one when you sell/buy a car. Plus it should have his name and address on it.

haha fuck that, I do that shit online, get my confirmation number and raise hell otherwise. I got a parking ticket before registering the car and it went to the previous owner for somewhere I apparently parked in long beach. go figure. lol

looks like they're all coming to me now.

Sounds like he lost that info.
Honestly i wouldnt worry to much. Your license will be fine. A mod already PMed him for you. Hopefully he responds and you can give the parking tickets to him to take care of and he actually registers the car like he SHOULD have.

Seriously - what is wrong with people?

EVERY TIME you sell a car -

Write a bill of sale and fill out a DMV Bill of Sale form. Put Buyer's NAME, ADDRESS, Driver License #, etc on there. Ideally, if you can make a copy of their driver license and have it right there on the bill of sale, that's most ideal.

Make MULTIPLE COPIES of each one.

Send in your Release of Liability THAT DAY. Ideally, take it straight to DMV. Get AAA so you don't have to wait in long-ass lines. Make a copy of that as well, and mark all of this on a calendar.

Cover your own ass, because nobody else will.

And this about sums it all up. AAA FTW.
