i have an sohc auto, for now ( swaping in a 5 speed soon ). wanted to know what i could do to build up my low-end, i just can't take the lag going from a dead stop, :( takes so much time to get "up there". acceleration is not horrible, just takes more then a while. my baby is in excellent shape, taken good care of. figure the intake and n1 dual moderately help, well the exhaust is probably more mid and highs, and i wanted to get the hs headers, but that might slow me even more considering those are more for the high end, so.... help me out... talk to me guys, any suggestions are welcome... thanks.

Hate to break it to you, but 240SX's are SLOW CARS!
What's the mileage on the engine? If it's low, start building the car up for a turbo installation.

my girl's pullin around the 100k mark pretty soon, so what? swap, and turbo...? i really don't have the funds for that kind of thing, nor the funds or patience and diligence it takes to do something like that. im not new to my 240 and mechanics, but not at all ready to say " i want to turbo "... damn, i just wanna give her a lil kick ya know... * sigh *. lol

you know when you're sittin in traffic...you're in the farthest left, and the guy in front of you all the sudden decides to try and make a left turn, and you're stuck there... waiting... you put your right turn signal and wait to switch lanes... then you see it... a gap, in your right side mirror behind the van that's about to pass you on the right... here's your chance.... and you hit the gas and you barely move... yeah.. that's what i want to fix... that two to five second pause ... am i just being stupid and anal about all this.. is there anything logical and not so expensive that i can do that doesn't require "a turbo..." or a "bottle of nitrous"... any comments people?

Well, as soon as you change from automatic to a standard tranny, you will notice a HUGE difference in throttle response. Automatics have to "think" for a sec before it puts it in the proper gear. The header suggestion would definately help out. I have never really heard of this in 240's, but at least for me (Mustangs) it is quite common to swap new gears. Doing this will also greatly improve acceleration.

Monkiboy, why did you post this same question in Tech Talk too? Just post on one category.

Dont feel bad its all relative. Its slow compared to a Corvette or a Firebird...Its very very fast compared to a accent or a K car...
Just like a Corvette or Viper is slow compared to a McLaren F1, which in turn is slow compared to a Fighter Jet and so on...
I like to think my car is fast thank you. Maybe not the fastest thing on the road, and there will always be someone with a nicer car than you, but its still got stink.
That is all.

Aren't S13's like 8.8sec 0-60mph/16.5sec 1/4mile, and S14's like 8.3 0-60mph/16.1sec 1/4mile? That's just pathetic, no way around it. Oh, and please don't make the argument, "Well, I don't care about performance as much, it handles really well."
Hey, at least 240's look nice.

well jeez, if you have such contempt for the car, why the hell are you even here? the majority of the people here like 240s, they are sufficiently fast, fun to drive, and upgrades are readily available. the purchasing cost for the car itself is fairly low, and i highly doubt that anyone here is trying to build a machine for the dragstrip. maybe thats your goal with your mustang, but the majority of people here who take their cars to the track do auto-x which requires different strengths than the quarter mile. just because the car wont do 0-60 in 4 seconds doesnt mean its bad. try to have an open mind.
have a nice day :fawk:
