priorities = backward. get the Silvia engine in there before trying to look like a Silvia.

P.S. "180SX turbo" would basically just be a USDM hatch with SR...

Hehe, yea, i wanted to do the motor first, but the front end came up at a really good price and i couldnt pass it up, and i do my own paint work so that was a cinch. As soon as the motor gets here, its dropping in ASAP, as of right now, it sits in my shop, already gutted, just waiting....... Yes, i want to also do 180sx turbo after this project, i actually wanted the fastback 240sx first, but i got the coupe at a great deal. thanks for the great feedback guys, oh, and those wheels are Work Wheels, someone stole my center caps!!!! Cant have anything nice these days!! Keep up the good work guys.

Since everyone is giving you a lot of praise, I think it looks like a typical japanese commuter car. Booya!! I do think it looks nice an clean, but seriously, it is just a stock bodied S13 silvia face with some nice wheels. Its circa 1988 in japan. Not that we should try and copy japan, but I am just tired of seeing so many stock silvias. I think to make your car the hotness, you should: get a Uras G+ or N+ or Hippo Sleek, or K-Style aerokit. Ditch that ugly cener light/grille. Go no grille, or the R32 style inserts. That, and some performance to back up the nice clean looks... Mmmm. Nice paint though. looks very stock, good job.

The pic looks good. I have seen it somewhere before. Engine first (sleeper kinda) then external mods, IMO. Just because I would not want someone rolling up on me asking for a race in my ferarri testarosa kit car fiero. Look bad azz and run bad azz. Your choice though, some posers like that style I guess...:D

I bet not 95% of the people that you consider racing a 240sx would notice that it has a different front end, let alone a Silvia fascia. This talk about people wanting to race you because you've got a JDM front is very rarely true.

Honestly, I like it. I have a white '93 coupe and would kill to just do a few small mods like you've done (or bought ).

"Silvia Motor" eh? How vauge.

Looking like a japanese market "silvia" has nothing to do w/ the motor. He could have the J's or Q's model Silvia NA SR20DE motor which is simular in power as the KA24DE and GASP it's just as slow but it's still a silvia motor!

Everyone asociating the "silva look" or "Silvia badge" with SR20DET fast as hell blow you away got it all wrong. Silvia is just a chasis.

It's the J's, Q's and K's you need to be talking about.

EG civic owners dont go "yeah I'm doing a civic conversion" why cause it's jsut a chasis. They say I'm doing a "Type R conversion" cause it's a trim.

elevator
07-07-2003, 04:35 AM
"Silvia" is not the chassis. It is the body. That is a Silvia K's body. The Silvia could have come with an SR20DET, SR20DE, CA18DE, or a CA18DET....depending on the year. The Chassis is basically the same as the 180/240SX for the S13 era.

Actually its not a K body, the front bumper is off a Q. If he is really smart he will replace the trunk lock too, with the SR not the CA.

If you want to get nitpicky, at least be correct.

That is a K's bumper. Note the intercooler vent quite obviously visible. J's/Q's bumpers don't have that.

You're thinking of the Aero bumper probably... available on both the K's and Q's... rare option.. but very pretty:

standard Q's on the left, Aero on the right

K's on the white car above

I am so sorry but I can't believe you are seeing so many Silvias that you are sick of seeing them. You, my friend are obviously full of manure. BTW they made the S13 Silvias until the S14s came out. So it may or may not be a 1988 model.

thats not what hes saying. hes saying the style of the car is "circa 1988 (Japan)."

on a side note, white cars were especially popular and common in the 80's (in Japan), because its like a lucky color or something. so yeah, a car like that would fit very well into 1988.

and who are you to say what he is and isnt tired of? being older than everyone here (or living in japan) doesnt give you auto-respect. you seem to often try to use that to make yourself feel important.

I just know thayt there aren't nearly as many Silvias in the US as there are 240S. I can't imagine how anyone could be sick of them.

I can't believe all these guys saying, "I don't want to do a Silvia conversion cause everyone is doing that now." or "I don't want an SR...everyone has an SR." or "I am so sick of seeing so many Silvias."

That is bullcrap and a thinly veiled case of Silvia desire! IMHO

Gladhatter I think you have a case of "180-face" envy. Everything has to have a Silvia front for you...

As for the 88 comment. I know the S13 was made from 88-90, and the PS13 was 91-93. Whether this is a PS13 or not, it looks like it should be a CA equipped early S13. Ala the STYLE looks like it is from 1988. Damn you are slow...

Yes.. I AM SICK OF STOCK-LOOKING Silvias. US or Japan... doesn't matter... I saw so many Js and Qs in Japan, that most Ks were modified quite a bit. Why? My friend says the guys he knows who buy Ks don't want them looking like the lower models. Thats why they either get Aero model or an aftermarket aerokit. And here in the US, everyone that does the "Silvia Converzyn" Leaves the stock body (95% of the time). So.... going to roughly 2 drift events a month, and seeing a good heap of stock looking Silvia (fronts) gets very old. And most of them are posers who drive the cars anyway... Its just the whole "I did I Silvia front as my first mod and my car rocks" attitude. If you don't understand this, who cares, its my opinion, I am living with it, and I am sick of it. I couln't care less if you hump every Silvia and Sil80 you see. Like I said, if I were in Japan, I would rock a Onevia (like the Sexy Knights Onevia).

I just know thayt there aren't nearly as many Silvias in the US as there are 240S. I can't imagine how anyone could be sick of them
I said stock looking... Many of the Ks I saw in japan were modified (Like I said earlier). I don't get sick of modified Silvias. I think a good compromise is VRT Elektrique's old blue car (RIP). His black one (RIP) had a D-Style (I think) aerokit that looked like an Aero bumper, but lower and bigger.... That looked even nicer. Anyway, this is a dumb argument. I can be sick of something if I want to, and you can not believ me if you want to...

I would say more, but Boro said all that already...

speaking of socal alone. S13's with Silvia face is VERY common here. It's really no big deal or eye catching at all. They are nice but not a big deal. Like linsey said it would be nice to see one which is all crazy looking.

AKADriver
07-08-2003, 01:58 PM
Well, speaking from the perspective of someone in Maryland, I only ever see ANY (tastefully) modified 240SX at a meet/show or at the track.

Day to day? Never.

And furrrrthermore, modifying a car is about personal taste, and if we all wanted to do something that noone else had done before... we wouldn't all own the same cheap old Japanese coupe and get so damn riled up when people said they didnt like each other's personal style.

It does look like something you'd see on the streets of Japan in 1989 (to be fair, S13 Silvias were only produced for a month or two of 1988 and probably wouldn't have enough time to gather aftermarket wheels and lose their pinstripes in that time). So? It also looks like something I'd like to see in my driveway in 2003. PFFFFT

Edit: STOCK (Silvia K's) DOESN'T SUCK! If you have expensive fragile fiberglass bodywork you're not driving your car hard enough :nono:

I was mostly joking, if the admonishing smiley didn't make that clear... making up for the stock pignuse crap on my car.

I prefer the Aero bumper style, but the stock plain bumper isn't bad. Especially K's style with the IC port. Or do like SCC did and mirror the IC port on the passenger side. But who gives a crap what I think - my car is 3 different colors.

I too am bored with seeing stock looking Silvia's. Yes, I have seen MANY, I lived in Japan for 3 years. If you are going to do the conversion, buy an aftermarket front bumper, cause that one is UGLY. And, it is a Q bumper, the IC hole was cut in afterwards, believe me these never came stock on the K. Read on sportcompactcarweb.com, they did a silvia conversion with this bumper, then cut the hole for the IC.

AKADriver

Alright, I'm usually not such a dick, but you've forced me into it.

First off, SCC should never stand as an authority. They get their information right, most of the time. But not all the time. This time they got it right, but vague. I quote, from the May '02 issue, pp.141:
"Our front bumper came from a non-turbo Silvia, so so we also had to cut an intercooler duct. Luckily we were able to trace the duct shape from a damaged turbo bumper, cut out a template, and trace the shape onto ours." If there wasn't a K's turbo bumper with the duct, where did they trace the duct shape from? It certainly isn't the same shape as the ducts in the Aero bumper, now is it?

Second, you mean to tell me all the cars sporting that side vent are all modified identically? Including all the ones that look stock in every other way? Who would put a Q's bumper on a K's... since the K's stock intercooler would be the only reason to cut that vent?

Third, there are plenty of folks who've written articles about Silvia bumpers that agree with me:
I miss my Aero bumper by Demon (http://sr20.hybrids.jp/editorials/aero_bumper/)
"What is an aero bumper? It was a factory optional front bumper that was available on the S13 Silvia from Japanese dealers. It sits lower than the regular Silvia bumper, and has a larger front vent, in addition to two large side vents (unlike the regular Silvia K's single small vent for its side-mount intercooler)."

NekoPunch's Silvia Front End Guide (http://northwestnissans.com/donations/nekopunch/front/front.html)
"On K's models, the front bumper had a cutout to allow airflow to the intercooler." It also goes on to describe the Aero bumper separately.
