hey im new to forum use and dont really know anything about them
but i want/ im getting my diff welded.
and i was told ill "break axles"
i was also told you can only really break axles from to much torque/power
(i dont need to worry about that)
so is it true? or can i also break axles just by Daily Driving it?

i forgot to mention i THINK im on stock axles right now, (i kinda just bought the car..)
omgRWDgoodness!

I think the welds in the diff are more likely to break before the axles do on a stock(ish) daily driver. Hell, even when putting down a significant amount of power I'm sure they'd hold just fine. You have nothing to worry about, they're not Honda axles.

whew!, kk thnx man, ya i might pull a deal with a local welder, where he welds my shit, and i rock a sticker on my window. :)
so im down, ( i dont have money to pay for a diff weld, let alone a VLSD or HLSD)

It is true that you are putting more stress on the axles when using a welded diff. But honestly I've never heard of anybody breaking a stock axle as a result of a welded diff. I could see it possible if the car weighed quite a bit more and the rear tires are very wide.

so it sounds to me like i have nothing to worry about then? :)

I have never broken an axle as a result of a welded diff.
I replaced them because they were old as shit and falling apart though.
Tires thing... stop buying used old tires and get an alignment.

funny finding this thread after what happened to me on monday haha.
whether or not it was a result of my welded diff i dont know.
I've had a welded diff in my track car for 3 season of drifting, and on monday i blew up my passenger side axle. This season is different since i am making around 300 at the wheels. but my diff is still fine. so yeah

As stated before, you won't break axles. They'll make a ruckus, but won't break.

stop buying shiity used tires and you wont have to kep going back to them.
and who ever does it, make sure they realy know what they are doing...if he takes it out and starts welding it with out properly cleaning it, stop him imidietly . he has kno idea what he is doing. 1/2 of welding up a diff is getting it preped rite

I put a 2 way in my car which had 250whp.....and broke an axle
I don't think it matters the horsepower numbers its more the stress you put on them. Of course more power would break them easier. But if you are clutchkicking your car non stop you might break an axle after some time. But I would not dwell on it and expect to break any. You should be fine.

Our stock axles are pretty strong. Tons of guys run welded diffs no issue. But when my buddy welded te diff in his subie. Broke 2 axles within a week!
So your okay to do it lol

not sure if it's a result of having a welded diff or not, but i've broken 2 passengerside axles...
sr20 on 12psi....first time left the shop I was working at jumped on the freeway shifted to sencond and bam, shit broke and scared the living shit outta me...thought I broke my tranny or the motor blew or something...that shit was laud ...
second time I had done a Just Drift event the day before..drove home fine and no problems...go to work in the morning, make it to the corner of my job made a slight right and clunk clunk clunk. left work and drove 14 miles home like that.
maybe they were bad axles or my subframe seriouslly needs to be checked but idk I have changed anything since...tho there is a laud noise coming from the rear when I turn at lower speeds... hmmmm

Subie's are AWD .. their diffs are wayyyy different than ours .. correct me if im wrong ..
axles wont break if u have a welded diff .. im one of the many thousands of s-chassis owners w/ a welded diff on a DD ...

You'll be good bra. Just the usual tire chirp, increased wear, noise, and attention at gas stations lol. Been running mines for about 6 months now and haven't had any probs yet, do ittttt!

:werd: ive seen so many axles break on Hondas at the track its sad...
i havnt had any problems with my axles with my welded Diff... just be careful in the rain :0
!Zar!

OP: You'll be fine. If they break, it is because of old age in shitty condition.

What the fuck.
Falkon240 is not a chick, nor is that Olivia Munn.
AND you're trying to hit on him?
UGH.

ive noticed on a few cars ive worked on that the inner section of the actual cv that bolts to the hubs of the diff had been cracked and leaking a bit of grease from time to time. but this is the only damage ive seen to an axle that i cant even say was cause by the diff but wasnt there prior to installation.
until i get time to drive/slide aorund in a car with a real diff i dont have an issue with running a welded with the chance of needing to swap axles every few events or change bs tires out a bit more often.

what the person is saying the anxles will break before his weld will.. its the same thing somone told me when they weled mine. there like dude your other parts will break before this weld does. and i believe them cuz they used that structual weld that they use in the huge buildings. so i think itll last.
