Searched but it seems like "rod" and "bolts" are way to common and results pop up with unrelated threads.

Basically just wondering if reusing the stock rod bolts will be ok. I cant find anything in the fsm about checking if they are still in spec or needing to replace them. I pulled the motor apart to change the head gasket and use arp headstuds but found a nice size pit from rust in cylinder 2. I disassembled the block and sent it to the machine shop and want to know when i put it back together if i should just resuse these bolts. Im running a gt2871r and power goals are 300-350whp i had planned on leaving the bottom end stock but now that i have to bore the block over im going to run either cp or wiseco pistons with the stock rods.

Its kind of retarded to re-use,re-torque the stock rod bolts. Just spend the $48 and call it a day. $48 bucks is a lot cheaper than rebuilding a motor!!

Well my thoughts were to replace them with new oem bolts but everytime i search google i get aftermarket bolts that would require machining of the rods.

From Nico

"since I was reusing my old rods; I replaced the rod bolts. Rod bolt failure can be a nasty end to a motor, and while I have yet to see a Nissan rod bolt in an SR stretch and break, it's never a bad thing to be too safe. I had considered ARP rod bolts, but they would have required expensive machining to ensure the rod ends were still round, and by that point, it would have been more cost effective to have gone with a set of performance rods."

So don't bother with ARP. Go to a nissan dealer or call courtesy nissan and ask them what the p/n is or just order them over the phone.

I know ive already gotten answer to this thread but could someone whose actually reused there stock rods with a ~400hp build chime in? Did you replace the bolts or reuse them. Its not the cost of the bolts keeping me from doing it, its the fact that im trying to meet a deadline and the bolts arent readily available at the places ive called, even courtesy nissan has them on special order.
