ive been hearing this noise just recently and i pulled my valve cover and removed the top chain guide which i could see some wear marks. the thing that is bugging me is the slack side..the right side i can move the chain a considerable amount. i stuck a magnetic wand down the in between and the magnet pulled the chain and i could wiggle the chain.

do you think its my tensioner going bad?

What do you mean the top chain guide?

The tensioner requires oil pressure to do its job. If the motor isn't running there will be slack.

This should help you understand more on the whole wear, and timing chain/belt problems, i know its quite a bit to read but it was referred to me by my auto tech teacher.

I had a feeling that was the guide you were talking about. Some ppl just remove that. Its up to you.

What is your oil level at? At the very least you should have an oil pressure gauge.

I would take the tensioner out and see if its going bad. Brand new, I had to use a vise to preset the swing arm on it, it was that hard to push in.
