okay guys so I just picked up a 1989 s13 240sx with a sr20det

currently the car is stock with a k&n filter, 3 inch megan catback, and a gutted downpipe/cat

I would really like to get this car to push over 400 at the wheels. With that being said, I have spent the last week doing a LOT of searching on all of the components I think I will need, so now it's time for me to make my own thread and get some advice on which parts to order

Here is a list of what I know I will be using
AEM EMS
Garrett GT3076R .84 trim
Greddy Intake Manifold
my own custom turbo manifold
my own custom IC piping
my own custom turbo intake piping

Can someone tell me, other than the AEM EMS unit itself will I need any other hardware, lines, clips, pins, connectors, etc...

Next up
I need some advice on the following
Headgasket
valve springs
camshafts
intake and exhaust manifold gaskets
injectors (assuming I need 740CC or more, but what brand yields the best results)
intercooler core
wastegate

this sr is complete and running right now, I'm really hoping you guys can help my use this thread so I can put together a shopping cart and just get everything ordered!

and if there were any parts at all that I left out or that you think should be added please include them!

I would like my set up to be almost identical to this guys in the video below! so if anyone has any other information about the specifics of that set up i would really appreciate it!

I need some advice on the following
Headgasket.....Apexi/Cosworth 1.1 mm (stockish)
valve springs....Ferrea (baller), BC (good for the $)
camshafts......HKS 264 Steps II, JWT S3/S4
intake and exhaust manifold gaskets.......whatever, just not paper
injectors (assuming I need 740CC or more, but what brand yields the best results)....740cc like you said....Tomei/Nismo, Sard, etc.
intercooler core....don't skimp, get a good one (Blitz,Greddy, HKS, etc.)
wastegate......no reason not to go Tial

this sr is complete and running right now, I'm really hoping you guys can help my use this thread so I can put together a shopping cart and just get everything ordered!

It is ridiculous how many of these threads their are.....

Here is a list of what I know I will be using
AEM EMS-Who is tuning your motor, is this person comfortable with the AEM EMS? Talk to them, depending on the tuner, some EMS's will get better results depending on what your tuner is comfortable with. Find the tuner you trust, then but the EMS
Garrett GT3076R .84 trim
Greddy Intake Manifold- You dont need this but its nice
my own custom turbo manifold
my own custom IC piping
my own custom turbo intake piping

Can someone tell me, other than the AEM EMS unit itself will I need any other hardware, lines, clips, pins, connectors, etc...

Next up
I need some advice on the following
Headgaske- Apexi or Cosworth, Also get some mazworks or ARP head studs
valve springs- Lot of people use BC, i dont like them as much as supertech or HKS, but there also 1/2 the cost
camshafts- Once again lots of people run BC, but i like the HKS ones, ($450)
intake and exhaust manifold gaskets- OEM intake, 3 or 7 layer OEM exhaust
injectors (assuming I need 740CC or more, but what brand yields the best results)Nismo 740's, they drop right in just need to tune the ECU
intercooler core- Greddy is nice, but i have seen 450+hp motors with ISIS or even CX racing. So your choice
wastegate- Tial

Someone tested all of the different brands of SR springs and actually found that HKS were some of the WORST.

....surprising, bc almost everything HKS makes is amazing.

Anyway, BC finished second only to Ferrea (IIRC) in terms of coil bind onset and pressure....so yea, they are pretty darn good.

Sure you CAN do just fine with a shit IC, but a good one will A) Cool down the air MUCh more and B) Have WAY less pressure drop.

Actually, Greddy intake manif with that size turbo should make a huge difference in helping the motor breathe in the 6000-8000 RPM regime.

see guys this is my problem. You're right that I can search and find tons of threads on all of this stuff but every thread has a different outcome. I'd just like to know what the best stuff is out there.

There is no RIGHT answer.

GENERALLY (and I stress generally), the people with higher post counts tend to know what they are talking about.

That doesn't mean that there aren't people with only few posts that also have great cars and great advice....

Look around, see what different people are running on their SRs, and do your best to shop around and stuff.

Too many threads like this. Just research each individual component. Example. You know you will need a new head gasket. Research all types of head gaskets for sr's. read up on their specs. read reviews on various forums about each type. see which responses from forum members seem to be the most consistent...then buy what you feel comfortable and knowledgeable with, and not just because some yahoo says go with this part over another for no reason.

Some people will like something that another person won't. So, yes this is hard to tell which part is better than the other. Also, you have to think how those parts will work together as one! This is the art of tuning, and it takes more than a post on a forum to discover all the secrets. It could take some years you know...

If you want to know the "Best stuff out there", go with the price... Generally, it tend to be "The better, the pricier"

Anyway, it's just my .02!

Generally, I agree with this!

Be careful though. You USUALLY get QUALITY when you spend a lot of money, but not always FUNCTION.

Tomei Expreme Manifold, etc.....

Ok this is what I have:

Garret GT3076R
Full Race exhaust manifold
5Zigen exhaust
Cometic Head Gasket
Greddy Light Weight pulley kit
Koyo aluminum radiator
Dual FAL electric fans
Greddy oil catch can
Greddy oil pan
Greddy FMIC
850cc side feed injectors
Aeromotive fuel regulator
and a Tec3 for brains.

With pump gas it pulled 420 @20psi last time it visit the dyno. Now it has a Greddy intake manifold and a 70mm throttle body and its currently untuned. I know there are many threads but it never hurts to listen from people with experience. Just some feedback on what you want.

ps. That's stock internals no cams no nothing. If I knew how I would post some pics. Good luck with your car!

Honestly, a FULL RACE manifold, but a Cometic HG????

I don't understand why you would be super baller with that turbo and that exhaust mani, and then cheap out just to save $100 by getting a shitty headgasket.

Cosworth or APexi FTW

okay i have a 400hp s14 SR so i will run down the parts as best as i can (was built by previous owner in japan when i lived there)

Greddy 518z turbo (i know its different but should yield same power)
Greddy intake/exhaust manifolds
Greddy DP
Greddy IC and piping
Greddy BOV type R
Greddy headgasket
Tomei injectors (guy said 900cc but jeezus wtf i am guessing 650 or 750)
Tomei cams (not sure lift or duration)
Tomei fuel pump
SARD pressure regulator
Apex'i Power FC (tuned by a shop in japan, cant recall who... top secret?) with MAP conversion (no airflow meter fuckin rocks)
blitz dual SBC boost controller
??? full titanium exhaust, test pipe
stock pistons/rods

the guy said he had it up to 430 at the wheels, but detuned a bit when he sold it to 400 flat. he spent over $8k on this engine and it shows. full power all the way to redline (8,500 iirc), plenty down low as he built it for drag.
i cant get traction until the top of 3rd with 255 potenzas. insane power. it has chewed up 4 transmissions in its lifetime. (yes i need z32 mission conversion!) he said if i use anything but carbon single plate clutches it will go through missions even faster. currently on ORC pro carbon and its perfect.

let me know if you have any questions.

Hahaha I know I went mad cheap in there lol, but that's what this is all about. This is a learning process. I'll go cosworth for whenever I do the head ; )
