Hi, I'm a little crazy. I want to spend money on an engine and I don't want any more HP. Crazy, right?
What I do want however, is majority of the torque available in the 2000-5000rpm range, and maximum HP (170-180HP on the flywheel is enough) around 6000rpm.
Starting point is a stock CA18DET. Fire away your imagination - what would be the recipe for success?

OK, let's change that to "BMW N54/N55-like build". Better?

Throw in a stock VQ30/35, enjoy.

torque wise just run a small turbine and some decent fuel management.. a s14/s15 ball bearing turbo should suit your torque needs.

Get a ZD30DDTi.
It's a RWD 4cyl turbodiesel from a Nissan Terrano / ElGrand.
You'll need to import it from Japan, which may prove expensive, but it seems to fit your bill the best.
ZD30DDTi Turbo Intercooled 170 hp (130 kW) @ 3600 rpm, 36.0 kg·m (353 N·m; 260 ft·lbf) @ 1800 rpm

Not nearly fun enough.

Amen to that. CA18DETs are dime a dozen, other Nissan engines not so much.

That's exactly why I'm asking - most of the dyno charts of T28 I've seen, don't have much going for them under ~3500rpm. That's far away from 2000rpm.

Not funny.
I'm glad you appreciate the effort I spent to research and share that information with you, jerk.
You asked for something specific, I gave you something specific.
You didn't say it COULD NOT be diesel.
I found a powerful diesel in a rwd configuration that would fit into an S-Chassis.
You're not allowed to ask for help here for a week.
Love, Kevin
