ok, i have a S13 SR with some mods and tuned to 328.6whp 287.4tq
i currently have a excedy stage 2 clutch which ive had for about 3 years now, with some track and mostly daily driving. its wearing down and i need a new clutch.
i was planning on getting another excedy cause its been awesome for me but i noticed at full boost/wot it slips a bit, and since it grabs really high now i figured i would get a new clutch but while shopping for another excedy stage 2, i realized that it only holds 291lbs of tq which is barely enough for my tune.
i want something MORE. so my tuner recommended SPEC clutches. so i did some shopping on SPEC clutches and found some in my price range. then a friend said he loves centerforce clutches and saids i should try it but i couldnt find any torque specs on any of them.
BOTTOM LINE, i want some detailed information on what you tried and what you thought. please do not post, i had a ACT clutch and it was great. that doesn't help me make a descision in any way.
i always see guys on here post about something and have detailed info on why they believe its good or not so im hoping to see some of that. HELP a fellow zilvian shop for a clutch =)
need something reasonably prices, under $400 so no twin plates or hyper nothings. i dont need to bust my tranny. something just enough for my HP range.
thanks in advance.

I personally have ran both Spec and ACT clutches. Of the two I would recommend ACT way more than I would recommend Spec. The reason I say this is because my SR when I had it was runnning similar hp and tq numbers 337whp/296wtq and I was running at the time an ACT HDR6 clutch and pressure plate setup. On this set up with those hp/tq numbers I barely wore out half the disc in a 11 month period before blowing up my SR and getting rid of it. This specific clutch is a 6 puck UNSPRUNG disc with ACT Heavy Duty pressure plate and the setup holds I believe about 350wtq so it is much more than you will need for now and leaves you enough room to upgrade some more without having to change the clutch again. The only problem I ever had with this clutch is just the fact that it is unsprung so before you get used to driving on it the start offs from stop will more than likely be jerky due to being unsprung.
As for Spec clutches I have used two of them so far. When I first got my car it came with a stock clutch that after about a year started slipping so I at the time had plans of going KAT so I said I would just one time go ahead and get a stage 3 clutch so I got the Spec Stage3. The clutch itself was good and I never had any problem with it in the 4 months before I pulled my ka and put in my SR. The thing I did notice when I put the SR in though is that in 4 months I had put signigicant wear on the disc with a NA KA and I doubt the clutch would have lasted another 6 months without slipping. At the same time I had bought a Spec Stage3 to replace the stock clutch in my SR when I put it in. If I had known about the wear before I bought the Spec clutch for the SR i wouldnt have gone with a spec for the SR at all. After having the Spec Stage3 in my SR for just about 9 months I had blown my SR so i decided to rebuild it and try to make about 350whp. When I pulled the motor and looked at the clutch there was practically no life left on the clutch and If I hadnt changed it would have been slipping as soon as I put it back in the car and made the power I did.
Hope my input is helpful

Say No to SPEC. They're clutch has been shit in the last 6 yrs now. They were good at one point. I'd get an ACT Extreme Sprung 6 puck clutch. Thats what I had in the states.
Or be a baller like Sileighty said...Os Giken Twin plate.

I personally wouldn't go with one of ACT extreme plates either. My friend was running the ACT XTR6 which is the same unsprung disc I had with the extreme pressure plate making it capable of hold i believe around 400wtq but my friend had issues with his slave cylinder with this clutch. He blew out the slave cylinder 4 times in a 6 month period. Happened so frequently that while he was using that clutch he would always have a spare slave cylinder and a bottle of brake fluid in his car so he could change it if it randomly went out on him.

i got a good price on a SPEC stage 3 from a friends shop. That clutch was shit it would slip bad on high boost and passing cars. So i trashed it and went with a ACT NS1 - XTG6 and i love it. It has a lil hard engangement for Daily Driving but worth it knowing its a good clutch and will hold anything i throw at it.

yea my tuner saids SPEC clutches are awesome as long as you get nothing under the carbon metallic. he saids all the lower lines with semi-metallic aren't so good.

Exedy is a great clutch. Iv had a spec for the past 2 years and it just took a shit last week the metal holding the springs in broke. But thats mostly because I only have 2 tranny bolts and 1 dowel pin lol. I had it re-built and its working great. Iv also had act and toda clutchs.

Actually I remember that now, I did have that issue. Not sure if it was the TOB or what. I ended up changing the slave cylinder rod (piece at the end of the slave cylinder that touches the fork) with a screw that was slightly longer than the stock piece. Never had an issue with it for the 3 year I ran it...
