yeah...just exactly what the topic said...did you take a class, have lots of time and just opened up an engine, did you read a book, did you read a ton of books, did you soak up everything in the forums, did you take a class, and in the class have a book with it? just wondering...i am hopefully aiming for a DIY KA24DET project and i want to know...everything...like some of you guys seem to.

obviously i am getting a fsm, but any books about turbos? rebuilds? internal work? electronics? or just do the blow-a-motor-and-learn-as-you-go strategy?

Most, if not all your questions about a KA-T set up and anything else regarding the 240 for that matter can be found here (http://www.zilvia.net/f/search.php?s=). As for knowledge, i got most of it from this site and a few others (check the links section) and through trial and error experiences with my own car. And if you can get one, the FSM is a big help! Good luck with your project. :)

Remember, PLEASE use the search mode, it's your best friend. If you dont....well, lemme just say, you had better have a quadruple strength flame suit!

I know I dont know as much as some of the other members, but I get my info from members here, hands-on experience, books, friends, and just the internet in general. I will also be going to trade school this July for automotive. You pretty much listed every souce of information by yourself lol.

If you are thinking of turboing your KA, i recommend Corkey Bell's book: Maximum Boost, great book on everything involved with a turbocharger.

Good luck

I went to a high place in the himalayas and asked the wisest man in the world if I could be his apprentice.:D

Seriously, mine, experience that is, was through hands-on with my cars cause I am a cheap, stubborn, macho, [email protected]!
This and other forums supplied good quick "I AM IN BIG TROUBLE" information. And of course, all of the Haynes A/C, Carbuerator repair, fuel injection service, suspension service, and of course, exhaust/intake guides from around including but not limited to FSMs and visit your local college book store. We have a community college which has an A.A.S. in automotive repair which they stock books for.
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT, as long as its on someone elses car;)

yeah i do use the search... a LOT...and great information has been received. what i am looking for is more like a base, because my knowledge is a spec compared to some of you guys. im in the market for a used KA (with manual trans because my current is auto) but i want to make sure that i know the majority of what i am diving into. its really great that there are boards like this one that almost any question will be, or already has been, answered. but as for now...i will look for that book on turbos...and a fsm too.

maybe the dude in the himalayas as well.

Yeah, i seriously urge you to pick up that book if you are serious about turboing. I think Amazon has it for like $25.00.

I got my knowledge from experience working on the car, research on and offline, and from other members here. There are plenty of people here who have already successfully turbocharged their KA.If you have a question, don't be afraid to ask in the forums, you'll get help. Some members may flame you...(because they like to be azzholes) but no question is a dumb one, and if asking a question here prevents you from making a large mistake with your 240, it's well worth any backlash you can get.

Buy and FSM. It's one of the best investments that you can make for your 240. If you keep your eyes open on EBAY long enough you can get one for a decent price. I bought mine on there for 30.00 never used.

Lastly, PLEASE DO RESEARCH ON FUEL MANAGEMENT. If you are going to turbocharge the KA, you have to upgrade your fuel management with it, otherwise you're going to have plenty of problems. Get as much info on fuel management as you can.

Hope that helps you out...Best wishes to you on your project, and Good Luck....

Sadly enough everything I learn I learn from messing something up. I do all my own car work be it internal/external and I jump into these projects without any research what-so-ever. 75% of the time things go right, the other 25%, I know some stuff leave it at that please :)

Time is the biggest one, I've been on this forum and i've also owned my s14 since 2001, so you learn from just owning and driving the car. I've learned alot from this forum however, and fellow enthusiasts. Just get involved with the community and you'll be a KA-knowing SR-loving 240-drivin s.o.b. like the rest of us.
