OK, I've been installing car stereos myself for over 10 years, no professional experience, but I know what I'm doing.

Anyway, I have a 1992 240sx SE coupe. When I got the car it had no radio in it. So I got an aftermarket radio out of an '89 or '90 240 coupe. The radio didn't work, but it had the wiring adapter, so last night I hooked the harness adapter to a new CD player and installed, after a little poking around, I had to move the 12v switched and ground pinouts on the adapter, so I guess they are different from the '89-'90 model and the '92. Are there other wiring differences in the models?

I ask because so far no sound from the speakers. It's either the wiring is all different or they are maybe wired through an OEM amplifier or something.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There were oem amps on some models and there is a write-up available on how to bypass them if thats the case. Your best bet would be to do a search of the forums on the subject and find that and see if that helps.

Might as well run new wires throughout the car.

Well, I bypassed the rear amplifier, just wondering if the front speakers had their own amp or if they were powered by the deck? Rear speakers are now working, but the fronts are not, so either they are run by an amp, there are no speakers behind the grilles, or the speakers that are there are blown.

Yeah, the fronts have a factory amp too. I ran new wires like James said. It's not worth the trouble trying to wire throught those crappy amps. You aftermarket cd player will put out more power than that factory amp will.

Where is this amp located so that I can bypass it at the amp. Thanks.

I THINK, that only the front speakers have the amp thing, they're actually wired to the speaker itself, into the door, yank the whole big plastic/metal assembly out, no missing it

nope, the rears have an amp too, i just pulled it out yesterday.

i had an aftermarket headunit with factory speakers running for a while and it worked fine. i guess you could pull out the amps, but it should work with them in there.
