View Full Version : Blown Turbo?

I was at my monthly autocross this past weekend and at the end of each run my car would have a trailing cloud of smoke behind it.

My setup is KA-T with T25. Water and oil cooled with a restrictor.

The smoke does not appear at idle, revving at full stop or even sometimes when making boost, but at the end of the run it would make tons of smoke from the exhaust when getting on the throttle. It does not smell like coolant and the car drives fine normally but I have not tested it.

Any thoughts? What should I check to diagnose? I have a spare T25, but before I find time to pull everything off I want to make sure.

usually the smoke is blue, my t25 is doing the same thing only when i let off the throttle, more than likely your turbo is blown, blow- by, bad seals

check your intercooler piping for oil as well in case you have some blow by or whatever its called. but its probably just your turbo taking a shit

you probably have blow-by. do you have a catch can for oil? do you have a recirculated blow-off valve? check the intake piping to the turbo if you have a recirculated blow-off valve. if there's oil then its blow-by.

I am currently not running a catch can but I don't see any oil in the hose connecting to the intake. Or is there no leftover residue?
And yes my bov is recirculated.

well if it was blowby there would be oil in the intake of the turbo. if there's oil in the hot pipe it could still be the turbo. well its starting to sound more like the turbo now.
