I recently replaced my radio with a new Kenwood KDC-X993. The dimmer circuit was wired into the stock radio. With the new radio installed, the dimmer no longer works. I know I can connect the dimmer wire in the car to the illumination wire on the radio to get it to dim when my lights are on, but that still doesn't make the switch work for the dash lights.
The only thing I can think of would be to connect the cars illumination wire to the cars dimmer wire with an inline fuse and a resistor to complete the circuit like it would be with the factory radio. Not sure if it will work, and I don't know what the current needs to be (and therefor don't know what fuse or resistor to use)
Notes: My lights work, just don't dim. I pulled out the switch and tested it, the switch works. All fuses are good, pulled each and tested them. TCU is good.
TL;DR How do I get the dimmer switch to work if I've installed an aftermarket radio?
