View Full Version : Sr pulling timing between 2-3k

So I've been dealing with this problem on and off for a few months. I know trouble shooting pretty well but this one is getting to me.
So I drive my car daily and noticed it some times pulls timing between 2-3000 rpms. Can be 30 secs of driving or 3 hours. Temp sensor is new and I have a okachan temp gauge it never goes over 84 cel. If I turn the key off and back on while driving it goes away for a while then comes back.
I've been over the car time after time and find nothing wrong. No bad codes. I'm thinking maybe A bad circuit in the ecu.
Anyone had this happen before?

check the knock sensor.

I was thinking about that but I pinned it from the plug to the ecu and it was ok and no code for it. But I will pull it off and see.

Try bypassing the knock sensor trick to see it is the problem. When my POS started pulling timing on me I didn't get a code, it just got progressively worse and worse.

How do I bypass it. Jumpers, or just unplug it?

Also one thing I failed to mention is stock setup except frontmount, and 2860 turbo on a Megan manifold.Stock boost of .5 bar.

I believe to bypass it there is a resister you have to run. I cant remember the configuration but you can google it.

Stock ecu.type x engine with red top harness 62 ecu red top water temp and O2 aswell with a 2860 turbo.

^ just to clarify, you are saying you are using all the correct sensors for the ecu right?
I would highly recommend nissan data scan ( a product I do not sell just so there are no haters) and a consult cable. You can log all of your sensors and see if any are acting up at the time of the timing retardation.

I had a a consult from blazt.biz loved it. Then it broke and I never bought another one. I may have access to one.

So I put a resistor in and it doesn't do it but doesn't pull as strong as when the problem is not happening. Going to pull the knock off and check things out maybe swap it. Thanks everyone for the help.

Did you used the right resistor? You need a 1 Mega Ohm resistor to send the ECU the right signal.
If you are not sure then follow this link for reference.

Obviously it is not a 240SX but the concept is the same. Good luck.
At the end of the how-to, he goes on to tell you how to diagnose in the case when the resistor does not work as well.

Yeah one mega ohm 1/4 watt at 5percent. I took it out and problem came rite back.
