knocking sound....

I have a 1990 240sx with a soch ka2400, this weekend my check engine light turned on and a also noticed a knocking sound. After I ran the car for a while the light turned off but the knocking still continues only when the car is cold but after it warms up it stops...anyone have any idea thanks.

Check your oil level first

i had just done a tune up...spark plugs & wires, oil filter, air filter, and fuel filter, also i added lucas stabilizer to the engine oil...i have gotten replys of being a knocking sensor, weak oil pump and a lifter.
